Fans of a certain anime have been waiting for a continuation for 13 years. However, it has once again been postponed, stretching the patience of fans even further.
Which anime is it about? Puella Magi Madoka Magica is an anime that seems like a sweet story about friendship and magic, but is actually a psychological thriller. A feline creature offers girls a contract and grants them any wish if they become Magical Girls, who must fight witches.
However, the girls soon realize that they are fighting for their very survival. If they fall into despair or exhaust their magic, they themselves become witches. The protagonists therefore try to break free from this cycle and rewrite the system.
Meanwhile, 3 movies have already been released for the anime:
- The first part “Beginnings” was released in 2012
- In the same year, the second film “Eternal” followed
- Only a year later, in 2013, the last part “Rebellion” was released
So, no further part of the series has been released for 13 years. In 2021, however, the fourth part “Walpurgis Night: Rising” was announced. This is supposed to continue the story from the last film “Rebellion.”

Why the postponement again? As the team reveals on the official site, the postponement is due to production reasons. Originally, the film was scheduled for February 2026. A new release date is expected to be announced this month.
The fourth film was originally supposed to be released in Winter 2024. The first postponement was to Winter 2025, the second to February 2026. Thus, the current delay is the third.
What do fans say about it? Many fans do not understand how, after so many delays, production reasons can simply be cited as the cause. They demand a more detailed explanation of why the film is postponed again.
A user on X compares it to GTA 6. He refers to Walpurgis Night: Rising as the “GTA 6 of anime movies.” This alludes to the fact that the action game by Rockstar was announced in December 2023, with the original release set for 2025. However, there have also been two delays here.
Fans are therefore pessimistic about a new release date. A user on X even writes that he thinks he will have to wait until 2027. The hopefully final resolution will come in a few weeks.
