For some, they are little dopamine bombs, others ignore them completely: the achievements on Steam. Some of them can only be earned today. We will show you which achievements those are, and how to get them on MeinMMO.
We adjusted the title on January 2, 2025, but the article is still based on the status of New Year’s Day.
What kind of achievements are these? Many games on Steam have achievements: goals for which players must meet certain conditions in a game. Some achievements are earned when certain story sections of a game are reached, others for very special achievements and at least one just for being nice.
However, there are also time-limited achievements – and some of them you can earn today, on January 1, 2025.
In which games are there achievements today? On Reddit, the user lunchanddinner reminded in a post from December 31, 2024, our time, to claim the achievement “New Year’s Resolution” in the benchmarking tool 3dMark on Steam.
At the time of the post, only 0.8% of users had collected the achievement – as of now (January 1, 2025, 11:40), it’s already 1%. In the comments, users gather further games where New Year’s Day plays a role:
- For “Elder Signs” in Halo 3 (Master Chief Collection on Steam), you need to find two sigils on the map Valhalla. One appears on New Year’s Day, the other on November 11 each year.
- For “Story Teller” in Batman: Arkham City on Steam, you need to visit the Calendar Man on 12 specific days, including New Year’s Day. Other dates include Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, April 1, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, American Independence Day on July 4, St. Roch’s Day, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (on December 25!). Keep in mind that some of these days fall on different dates each year.
- Year Walk is a game on Steam that seems made to be played on January 1. Accordingly, there is also an achievement just for that.
Do you have any other achievements of this kind in mind? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
Is there another way? Are you reading this article on a day that is not the 1st of the year, or do you want to unlock an achievement that requires you to play on another specific day? No problem, because there is an alternative way to unlock such achievements.
Most games of this kind can be tricked by simply setting the desired date in your PC’s settings. To do this, right-click on the date in your taskbar (usually at the bottom right) and go to “Adjust date and time”.
But be careful: Some games warn that such “time travels” can trigger bugs. If things go really bad, you could jeopardize your save game.
Additionally, you will of course miss the satisfying feeling of having earned the achievement in an honest way.
Other games on Steam also play with time. While you have to play for most achievements in some form, one game even asks you not to touch it for years. You can find out more about this here on MeinMMO: Whoever wants all achievements in one of those must wait 10 years.
