AMD’s latest software version has added extensive features for graphics cards. So far, the features are not yet visible. However, a user reported that there is a trick to make them appear.
A user reports that the current software from AMD already includes some features that cannot be utilized yet. This is reported by WCCFTech magazine. The features are reportedly already visible with a tool for AMD graphics cards.
With this, AMD is likely preparing a major update for its upscaling technology FSR. In the future, this could mean a significant increase in FPS.
Frame Generation with 8 times the images for AMD cards
What exactly is in the new software? The most exciting are the two new options “FSR Multi Frame Generation Override” and “Ratio.” With these, AMD is likely working quietly in the background on an update to its frame generation technology.
So far, AMD has relied on a very simple model: For every frame, an additional frame is generated. The competition has already moved significantly further: Nvidia offers 6 times the performance, while Intel delivers at least 4 times the frames.
However, behind this covert update, there is reportedly now an 8 times model. This means that with AMD’s MFG, seven additional frames will likely be generated per natively rendered frame. The advantage is clear: The framerate in games increases significantly, but there is also a catch:
Frame generation fundamentally increases image latency: Each additionally calculated (= interpolated) image brings a certain delay. The more images are calculated, the higher the latency potentially rises, which can be a killer for fast shooters. Nvidia counters this, for example, with Reflex, while AMD relies on its Anti-Lag technology. How well AMD can curb the latency at an 8-fold frame rate is still unknown.
What should also be noted: Frame generation only works properly if there is already a stable framerate of at least 60. If the framerate is very low and attempts are made to calculate intermediate frames, this can quickly lead to problems and errors.
AMD has officially announced: The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is returning to the market. The Ryzen CPU remains one of the best gaming CPUs today and the best CPU overall for the old AM4 platform.
