After AMD released the new RX 5700 series in the summer, there is now news about weaker models.
These graphics cards have been announced: The RX 5500 series consists of the Radeon RX 5500M, the RX 5500, and the RX 5500 XT. There will be both desktop and mobile versions.
Who is the 5500 series interesting for?
The 5500 series is intended to compete with the RX 480/580 and Nvidia GTX 1650. Therefore, the 5500 series is clearly aimed at the mid-range market and full HD gaming. The 5700 series from AMD and the Super cards from Nvidia are more targeted at gamers who want to play at 1440p.
If you mainly play in the full HD range, it might be worth looking at the 5500 series.
Price and release date of the Radeon RX 5500
It is unknown when the series will be released. AMD has announced the 5500 series only for this quarter. The cards are expected to be released later in the year.
It is also not yet known what the 5500 series from AMD will cost. However, if the 5500 series is to compete with the RX 580, it will likely cost around 200 euros. The RX 480 was priced around 250 euros at launch.
These questions still remain: So far, we do not know what the differences will be between the XT and the standard variants.
Additionally, no custom models have been announced at this time. Custom models often offer better fans and a more pleasant noise level.
Videocards.com speculates that the XT and standard variants differ only in the size of the video memory.
