FSR is AMD’s alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS. However, you have to enable FSR 4.0 in the settings to use the feature. MeinMMO explains how to do it and demonstrates it using Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel: Rivals.
FidelityFX Super Resolution, short FSR, is AMD’s alternative to Nvidia’s DLSS technology. With FSR 3.0, significant progress was already made, but FSR 4.0 is even better. Nowadays, a variety of games support FSR 4.0, a complete list of games that support FSR 4.0 can be found directly on MeinMMO.
However, those who want to use FSR 4.0 need not only a specific graphics card but must also activate the function in their system. MeinMMO explains how to do it and what you need to consider.
If you do not activate FSR 4.0, the function will not be available in many games. In Cyberpunk 2077, for example, the option for FSR 4.0 is not even displayed as long as you do not activate the function.
FSR 4.0: Requirements and activate for supported games
These are the requirements for FSR 4.0: Those who want to use FSR 4.0 definitely need a graphics card from the RX 9000 series. Currently, those are the RX 9070 (XT) and the RX 9060 (XT). More graphics cards are expected to follow, and FSR 4.0 is officially not compatible with older graphics cards.
Depending on the game, you should definitely have the latest software version from AMD installed. You can get the latest version directly from AMD.
This is how you activate FSR 4.0:
- First, open your AMD software (Adrenalin Edition). The quickest way is from the taskbar below.
- Next, switch from the “Home” tab at the top to the “Gaming” tab.
- In the “Gaming” section, switch to the “Graphics” tab.
- Scroll down a bit until you see the graphics card options. Here you will find the option “FidelityFX Super Resolution 4.” This is the long name for FSR.
- Change the menu option from “disabled” to “enabled.” You will receive a notification that your software automatically makes a few settings.
You will now receive a series of notifications from the software at the bottom of the taskbar, showing you that automatic settings are being made in certain games to enable FSR 4.0.
Activate AMD FSR 4.0 in Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel: Rivals
Activating FSR 4.0 in the game: Once you have activated the feature via the general AMD software, you can then use FSR 4.0 in many games.
We will exemplify this possibility using Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel: Rivals. In both games, you must activate the corresponding option in the game settings. You can see the settings in the following two images:
If you use the new performance overlay from Steam, there will be a small FSR or an FG (for Frame Generation) behind the FPS display.
Important: As long as you do not consciously activate the FSR 4.0 function in the AMD software, the setting will usually not appear in the game! FSR 4.0 will also not appear if you do not have the compatible graphics card or cannot select it.
