Amazon Games is slowly withdrawing from its MMORPGs. Now, a cost-cutting measure follows for the latest MMORPG Throne and Liberty, which primarily harms players on the PS5.
What have the developers announced? For about a week now, there have been rumors that Amazon Games was working on merging servers and regions. This rumor has now proven true, and the developers have officially announced on playthroneandliberty.com that they will merge servers and regions.
In particular, the players on PS5 are the ones who suffer, as they will have to give up their exclusive servers.

What changes are planned? In Europe, the developers have only planned a few changes. The server that allowed PS5 players to play exclusively and without cheaters due to console restrictions will be shut down.
All players will be moved to a “normal” server, which will also be used by PC players. There will no longer be any PS5-exclusive servers in Europe. Those who don’t want to deal with PC players and bots in the game can choose to play on the PS5-exclusive server in America, which will remain.
The auction houses will also be merged. With the end of the PS5 servers, there will only be a shared auction house in the server region and no alternative.
Where are the biggest cuts? The biggest cuts are being made by the developers in America. There, the server regions North America West, North America East, and South America East will merge into a single server region.
In this process, the 3 exclusive servers for PS5 in those regions will be combined into a single PS5 server. This will then have two auction houses: one for PS5 and one for the new server region “Americas”.
What about Throne and Liberty? After the exit of Amazon Games, players of Throne and Liberty could initially breathe a sigh of relief. The MMORPG will remain and will not be shut down. But similar to Lost Ark, Throne and Liberty is also fading away quietly.
The player numbers are slowly but steadily declining, with Throne and Liberty barely managing to have over 10,000 players at peak times (Source: SteamDB). The big September 2025 update did not attract enough new players. At that time, only about 28,000 players were online at peak times, and the effect has long since faded.
Players of Throne and Liberty are clearly thirsty for a new update with plenty of content. Until that comes, player numbers will likely continue to drop.
