Throne and Liberty is set to release this year and could become the next big MMORPG. Rumors suggest that Amazon is a possible publisher.
Development of Throne and Liberty began in 2011 by NCSoft. It is expected to finally release in 2022. According to the South Korean financial magazine Money Today, the developers are currently negotiating with Amazon. Therefore, Amazon could potentially become the publisher of the MMORPG and distribute it in Europe and North America.
According to Money Today, a partnership with NCSoft is very likely, but not certain. Additionally, this could lead to a delay in the release in the West. Throne and Liberty is expected to release in Korea by the end of 2022, and in Europe and North America only in 2023.
NCSoft is currently testing the game internally. In the meantime, they refuse to comment on the rumors regarding Amazon as the publisher.
Release on PC and Consoles
What kind of game is this? Throne and Liberty is a new MMORPG currently being developed with Unreal Engine 4. You can play not only on PC but also on consoles. The developers plan releases for PlayStation and Xbox. In an interview, the developers have already revealed some details about the gameplay.

- The MMORPG throws you into an open game world.
- You create your character, but do not belong to a fixed class. Instead, you equip two weapons that determine your playstyle. You can level up and improve these weapons later.
- The story of the MMORPG is the focus. The main storyline runs throughout the game while individual stories can be discovered in each area.
- Classic PvE with bosses and dungeons play an important role, as do PvP content.
- There are many challenges that you must overcome with other players. Therefore, guilds are important.
When NCSoft started development 11 years ago, the game was initially going to be called Lineage Eternal. However, the publisher ultimately did not like this version of the game, a hybrid for PC and mobile, which was taken offline in 2017. Development is said to have already cost more than 75 million euros.
How much will it cost? Throne and Liberty is expected to either adopt a Free2Play or a Buy2Play model. In any case, there will be a shop. NCSoft promises, however, that it will be free of Pay2Win. They want the efforts of the players to be rewarded. However, players who only play a few hours per week should be able to catch up via the shop.
