The Dredge
The Dredge is probably the most gruesome monster that Dead by Daylight has produced. Also known as the dark entity “Druanee”, the body of the Dredge was created from the corpses of an ostensibly utopian cult. The Dredge is a large killer with standard movement speed and a variety of teleportation and disorientation options.
Special Ability: Reign of Darkness and The Gloaming – The Dredge is the mistress of darkness and can perform some tricks. She starts the game with 3 tokens, which are consumed when using her power and regenerate over time.
By using the ability button, The Gloaming is activated, leaving a remnant of the Dredge in place. The Dredge can now teleport to lockers, move at reduced movement speed, or return to her remnant with an attack. If a locker is entered in this manner, the remnant dissipates. From the locker, one can either break out or teleport to another locker. Each teleportation consumes one token.
If the Dredge lands in a locker where a survivor is already present, the survivor is immediately grabbed and the locker is exited. If a survivor interacts with a locker in which the Dredge is currently located, the survivor will also be immediately grabbed.
Survivors can lock each locker once, which causes the Dredge to take longer to escape from that locker. Upon leaving the locker, the killer permanently destroys the lock. Locked lockers can also be opened from the outside with a standard attack.
Nightfall: The second special ability is “Nightfall” and is more of a passive than an active ability. Whenever the Dredge injures a survivor, hooks them, or teleports, the power gauge slowly fills up. Once the gauge is completely filled, night falls. For 60 seconds (standard value), the Dredge can teleport significantly faster, has a reduced cooldown on teleportation, and simultaneously the “Undetectable” state – meaning no traditional terror radius and no red stain.
In addition, Nightfall triggers a “Killer Instinct” effect on nearby survivors when the Dredge teleports into a nearby locker. Survivors can reduce the duration of Nightfall by touching the remains of the Dredge.
Once Nightfall has ended, the cycle of the ability begins again.
How to use Reign of Darkness effectively? The correct use of the Dredge’s abilities is relatively complicated. The remains can be used to cut off survivors in a loop, but it slows the Dredge down. Therefore, the Dredge plays like a regular “Basic Attack” killer until it comes to mind games, such as in loops.
Use teleportations primarily to quickly cover large distances. However, be aware that you cannot teleport to lockers that are too close to a survivor on a hook.
While Nightfall is active, teleportations can also yield good results in pursuits. Apart from that, you should avoid teleporting into a locker during a direct chase.
Who is the Dredge suitable for? The Dredge is suitable for anyone who wants to literally play the “monster in the closet”. Thanks to teleportation and the sometimes absent terror radius, the Dredge is perfect for jump scares to teach survivors to fear. However, those looking for a simple killer with an easy entry will find themselves out of place with the Dredge.
