2. Scream VI
Scream VI (strangely, the number is back here) brings the series into a larger setting for the first time. The sisters Sam and Tara have survived the events in Woodsboro and are now at university in New York. But a new Ghostface killer finds them, and this time he has a personal issue.
New York is a refreshing setting for the series and apparently, the city has also done the new killer good, as he is as brutal as ever. This creates thrilling moments, especially since more than just a knife is used. The reveal of the killer is in Scream VI more absurd than ever, but that’s exactly what I love about the series.
1. Scream (1996)
Scream was released at a time when slasher films were almost exhausted. Hardly any film attempted something new, and many of the classics were already in a wave of sequels. Wes Craven then simply created a slasher film with Scream that mocks the genre clichés.
Scream works not only as a good slasher with thrilling moments but also as a commentary on the genre, often producing laughter. The first Scream film ranks number 1 on this list because it paved the way, and no film has since managed to create something new.
