The Twisted Abyss is the end-game dungeon of Genshin Impact. Depending on the opponents, certain characters are brought into the dungeon. We show you the most popular characters that players take into the Twisted Abyss in Patch 2.4.
How does the Twisted Abyss work? Overall, there are 12 levels in the Twisted Abyss. Up to level 4, you need to send a team of up to four characters into the dungeon to defeat monsters within a certain time or protect an object.
From level 5 onwards, you have to send 2 teams consisting of up to 4 members into two different parts of the dungeon. The entire level is considered completed when both teams succeed in their challenges.
How is this list structured? We rank the characters from the bottom up, starting with the hero who is taken into the Twisted Abyss most frequently. We will explain the top 5 a bit more closely. Additionally, it’s important to note that the data is based on around 30,000 players.
Rank 1: Kazuha Kaedehara

Why is this character often taken into the dungeon? Kazuha can do one thing especially well: he can pull enemies together with his elemental skill. In the Twisted Abyss, sometimes every second counts, and it’s beneficial to gather scattered enemies in one place.
Together with his special ability, Kazuha can also boost the damage of other team members when he triggers a swirl. If you also have the character’s 2nd constellation unlocked, he gives you an additional 200 points of elemental mastery when standing in the field of his special ability – boosting the damage of team reactions even further.
Kazuha is therefore a pretty good overall package in terms of damage, crowd control, and support.

Rank 2: Zhongli

- Rarity: 5-star, only available from the character event wish
- Element: Geo

Why is this character often taken into the dungeon? Zhongli is particularly there to protect your team with his strong shields. With the shield, you won’t be knocked back or take damage, which can greatly help save time or even allow you to completely forgo a healer.
The Geo hero can not only grant shields but also deal significant damage with his special ability. His elemental skill meanwhile remains as a Geo object on the field, can hold enemies back, and inflict Geo damage on them.
Together with another Geo character, the team bonus “Solid Rock” is triggered, which lowers the Geo resistance of enemies and further strengthens Zhongli’s shields.
Rank 3: Bennett

Why is this character often taken into the dungeon? Bennett is the best support you could wish for in the Twisted Abyss: strong healing and strong buffs. In his special ability, you receive healing at regular intervals and a persistent attack buff as long as you stand in the field of the ability.
His elemental skill also has a short cooldown and can reliably gather Pyro particles for other characters, allowing their special abilities to charge faster. A popular combo is Bennett and Xiangling.

Rank 4: Xingqiu

Why is this character often taken into the dungeon? Xingqiu is often taken because players particularly rely on his special ability. After casting this, rain swords will intermittently fall from the sky while attacking, dealing damage to enemies and applying the “Wet” status to them.
The special ability even remains active when Xingqiu is switched out. This allows for the “Wet” status to be regularly combined with another element to trigger reactions that deal significant damage.
His elemental skill also absorbs some damage from enemies and can provide minimal healing as it disappears. This can be very helpful in critical situations.
Rank 5: Raiden Shogun

Why is this character often taken into the dungeon? The almighty Raiden Shogun is especially used because of her special ability. When she activates the special ability, not only does she deal high damage, but she also collects elemental energy for all team members, allowing the rest of the team to use their special abilities immediately after.
By using the special abilities of other team members, Raiden collects “Charkra Desiderata”, which strengthen her special ability again. This creates a reliable cycle in the team and ensures the continuous high damage output of all heroes in the team.
Not only that: her elemental skill is also useful. Because it remains active even when Raiden Shogun is switched out. While the elemental skill is active, Electro damage is intermittently triggered on enemies when other team members attack. This causes extra damage and strong combinations with reactions.
