NPCs often create strange and funny situations in games. In Starfield, a player asked an NPC to tell a joke – however, the response did not go over well with the player.
On Reddit, user Jaxenquest reported on September 7 about an experience he had in Starfield. In a dialogue with the expedition robot Vasco, he asks the NPC if he knows any jokes. Jaxenquest certainly did not expect the response.
Although there is no skill for ‘telling better jokes’ in Starfield, there are skills for other situations:
“I was mentally devastated”
This was Vasco’s response: In the dialogue with the robot, there is the option “Do you know any jokes about humans?” Jaxenquest selects this option and Vasco responds: “I’m currently watching one.”
The Reddit post is titled “I had to uninstall the game after this incident.” There, Jaxenquest also writes: “I was mentally devastated. Totally unacceptable (via Reddit).”
Whether he really uninstalled the game or wrote that as a joke, we obviously cannot say. He is definitely not the only one who had to hear such remarks from NPCs in Starfield.
In the comments under the post, which currently has over 4,500 upvotes, many users share their experiences in the game.
The robot Vasco is not only known for his funny remarks; he can even pronounce a variety of player names:
Clumsy to sarcastic – the NPCs in Starfield
This is how the community reacts to the joke: One user comments on Reddit that he was mocked by an NPC in Starfield for his weight. He had made his character “somewhat heavier”.
Another user writes that he plays Starfield as Ronin. Ronin is one of the backgrounds you can choose for your character in Starfield. An NPC made the comment: “You use swords? You do know there are weapons now, right?”
According to his own statement, Vasco was not equipped with a sense of humor; by the way, the robot previously belonged to Barrett, who is also a companion in Starfield.
The companions not only have funny remarks; they sometimes also awkwardly divert attention when they are courted. Barrett reacted to a flirt attempt with: “Um, okay… let’s get back to the mission (via Reddit).”
Even the companion Sarah reacts with funny and sometimes nasty remarks to the players’ actions. She asked me if I like parkour when I was flying through Neon with my boost pack. And she keeps telling me that I just carry too much junk and shouldn’t pick up everything lying around.
These remarks from Sarah are also known to the player who collected thousands of potatoes in his cockpit in Starfield and impressed the community with it:
