Shooter expert Sven Galitzki from MeinMMO hopes that the already celebrated DualSense controller of the PlayStation 5 can also convince him on one special point – durability. Because with the predecessor DualShock 4, he experienced a years-long drama.
Here’s how the DualSense currently performs: The official launch of the PS5 will take place in a few days, but Sony has already sent some copies of the PlayStation 5 to media and influencers – including the new DualSense controller.
And the new input device has already received a lot of praise from the first testers. Here are some examples:
- The well-known gaming journalist Jason Schreier thinks that the controller “is insane” and feels “more like ‘Next Gen’ than any graphical improvement.”
- The tech site Tomsguide.com says it is “the coolest controller ever made.”
- Mike Williams from USGamer states that the controller is the most incredible part of the PS5.
- The site Techcrunch.com writes that the DualSense “could be a game-changer.”
- YouTuber Dave Lee is also enthusiastic: “You can say with your eyes closed that you are walking on water, stepping on sand, or moving on wood, glass or metal. It all feels different.”
In short: The next-gen controller can obviously impress and excite so far.

Hopefully the DualSense can also convince over time
This is how I look forward to the DualSense: I, Sven Galitzki, also look forward to the DualSense with great anticipation and excitement. I am eager to try out what the haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers do to games. How it feels in hand – for me one of the most important factors.
But all the new features aside: I am also very curious about how the PS5 controller will perform in the long run – especially regarding durability.
This is currently my greatest hope for the new controller: I am particularly curious about the longevity of a certain component in the PS5 controller due to a personal trauma with the predecessor of the DualSense. Because only a few months after I had the DualShock 4 in my hands, I really had one wish for the successor:
Sony, please make the trigger buttons more durable!
This is the background to my controller trauma on the PS4: With the PS4 controller, the DualShock 4, I experienced a real personal drama. Because I can no longer count how many times I had to exchange the trigger buttons R2 and L2 on my 5 standard controllers.
There is exactly one controller (my last standard DualShock 4) where the shoulder buttons have lasted for now 8 months. Here, the shape of the trigger’s housing was already slightly different. Previously, I had to go to eBay every 3 months to replenish supplies – and that since I have the PS4. Because the damn triggers break on me as if they were made of millimeter-thin wood and had a predetermined breaking point that I hit 100% with my hand shape and pressure pattern.

And it is really only these two buttons. I have never had problems with the rest of the controller. Neither with the analog sticks, nor with the touchpad, the D-pad, or the other buttons. Not a single time.
And even if many laugh at me for this, thinking I play too brutally or have too much strength – I have not had comparable problems anywhere else. Neither on the keyboards of my computers, nor on my flight stick or any of the Xbox controllers I use on PC. By the way, I have never had this problem on the PS3 or the Nintendo Switch either.
Moreover, I know some other players (especially shooter players) in my immediate circle of acquaintances who complain about this problem – although not everyone does so with the same intensity. It may seem like an individual problem, but I am certainly not an isolated case.
And also, let it be said (and yes, I can already see the rest of the editorial team laughing):
- I handle all electronic devices very carefully and maintain them regularly and meticulously (Yes, really! No excuse)
- Everyone who knows me knows: I am a super-relaxed gamer. I never get upset about defeats, failed actions, or stupid mistakes – whether by me or by others
- I never take out my frustration on controllers or other peripheral devices, I don’t hit them, throw anything around or against walls
- No, I don’t have Hulk hands that can crack coconuts or skulls. On the contrary – I often perform delicate tasks with them
In this sense, once again: I am really looking forward to the PS5 and the DualSense with all its cool features. But my biggest personal wish for the new controller is and remains: Hopefully the trigger buttons last longer for me than on the predecessor model.
