Since 2011, content creator Florian “Varion” Kiesow has been uploading videos to YouTube, but his breakthrough only came in 2019. His success is a good example of how reactions can also help those being reacted to.
Who is it about? It is about the YouTuber and now also Twitch streamer Varion. Since 2011, he has been uploading videos on YouTube that could be assigned to various genres at the time. Sometimes they were comedy videos, sometimes vlogs, or gaming content.
Varion produced the videos alongside his actual profession. He is a trained metalworker and worked for years in manual professions after his training.
With sketch videos to 1 million subscribers in 3 months
What kind of videos does Varion make? Varion eventually found his type of videos: sketches. Varion was always seen in the roles to be filled. The roles came to life through various costumes and different ways of speaking, brought to life by him. In most videos, he makes his professional experience in the trades the theme.
Sketch comedy is a genre that is less common in the mainstream on YouTube today. The spirit of the times is different now, and sketches are more assigned to the 2000s and early 2010s on YouTube.

What makes Varion special? Varion’s success in 2019 was partly due to his humor, which many people felt connected with, but also because of other larger content creators. Varion was first introduced to a broader audience by YouTuber Zeo, who featured him in one of his videos where he gave shoutouts to smaller channels on YouTube.
Eventually, other German Twitch streamers and YouTubers also took notice of Varion. Towards the end of 2019, he was increasingly reacted to. The reactions drew attention to his then small channel.
Varion quickly broke the 10,000 subscriber mark, but that wasn’t enough. Viewers were so excited about him that Varion managed to reach 1 million subscribers on his YouTube channel within 3 months. A sort of rocket launch as a newcomer on YouTube.
In the ongoing discussion surrounding reactions on YouTube and who should financially benefit from them, Varion’s success is often cited as a positive example. Small YouTube channels that still have little reach can immensely benefit from a reaction to a video of theirs by a content creator.
What is Varion currently doing? Varion is now fully integrated into the German creator scene. On his YouTube channel, which now has over 1.5 million subscribers, he still uploads sketch videos. They are still successful, despite the changing spirit of the times.
Together with Twitch streamers Trymacs and unsympathischTV, Varion runs the podcast Offline + Ehrlich, in which the three share new stories from their lives weekly.
In the Minecraft project Craft Attack 13, Varion was involved alongside 100 other content creators. He had his own way of playing the game, as he wanted to handle his huge constructions all by himself: Other Twitch streamers tackle huge constructions in Craft Attack 13 as groups, one wants to handle it alone
