Some users report that Cyberpunk 2077 runs with less performance on AMD processors. Now there is an unofficial fix that can significantly increase your FPS. Here’s how it works.
What’s it about: In the official AMD subreddit, the weak performance of Cyberpunk 2077 is being discussed. According to users, this is because the game does not utilize the full power of modern AMD processors. Just in October, AMD introduced its new Ryzen 5000 processors. The thread starter writes:
If you run the game on an AMD CPU and check the load in the Task Manager, it seems to be using 4 (logical, 2 physical) cores with regular spikes up to 100% usage, while the rest of the physical cores are at 40-60% and their logical counterparts remain idle.
Meanwhile (as of December 14, 2020), the thread in the subreddit has received over 7,000 upvotes and there are also some smaller threads reporting the issues.
What is this trick? Some users have now presented an unofficial solution to get significantly more performance from AMD processors. However, there is no guarantee that the trick really works. All changes are made at your own risk.
Who should not use the trick? In principle, users with AMD processors with 8 or fewer cores benefit the most. This is mainly due to how the CPU cores are interconnected via the cache (tomshardware.com). Users with significantly more cores sometimes struggle with larger performance drops.
According to ComputerBase, it also depends on the PC configuration whether the code hack really brings more performance. Therefore, the colleagues advise against using it.

Improve “Cyberpunk 2077” performance with Ryzen processors
- Download Hex Editor
Download a hex editor. You can get the “HxD Hex Editor” from the German portal Heise. You can find the editor in the download section of Heise.
- Find exe file, create backup
Then search for your Cyberpunk2077.exe. This is usually located in the “bin” folder and here in the “x64” folder. Make a backup of the exe file.
- Open exe file with editor
Open the exe file with the hex editor and do not let the huge numbers unsettle you.
- Change display in editor
Change the system from columns to hex values with Ctrl + F.
- Make change and save
Now search for the value “75 30 33 C9 B8 01 00 00 00 0F A2 8B C8 C1 F9 08” and replace the first two digits 75 with EB. After that, save the exe file.
What happens technically? CD Projekt Red relies on ICC (Intel C++ Compiler) for the game. This already uses code to handle multi-core processors.
The REDengine 4 of Cyberpunk 2077 mainly uses Intel’s Hyperthreading (HT) but does not actually utilize AMD’s SMT (Multi-Threading) at all (computerbase.de).
By changing the code, you replace the instructions that the compiler sends to the processor with codes that look more relevant to AMD. The problem here is that Ryzen processors are also built differently.
