Elden Ring has received not only good, new weapons through its DLC. One is considered particularly bad – an opinion shared by many in the community.
Which weapon is it? Among the over 100 new weapons in the DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, there are some that are surprisingly strong. If you choose the perfume bottles or the new thrust shields, you can significantly ease the boss fights.
Players have long recognized this and use the powerful weapons to get through the challenging expansion more easily. However, not all weapons have been viewed positively. One is even considered particularly notorious – and not in a good way.
It is about the Caria magic sword. You can find it in Castle Ensis in a chest. The weapon is not particularly difficult to obtain, which is likely why many players have not only discovered it but also tried it out.
This is a thrust sword that scales with strength, dexterity, and intelligence. However, particularly the latter value is partly the reason why the community refers to the sword as bad.
The weapon disappoints across the board
Why is the sword bad? The user DisAccount4SRStuff explains in a post on Reddit why he considers the Caria magic sword to be the biggest disappointment in the DLC, and even in the entire game.
On the one hand, the scaling of the weapon is terrible. It would deal less damage than the ghost flame torch with light attacks. Also, weapons that don’t scale with intelligence but can be enchanted would deal significantly more damage.
Another disadvantage is that the sword comes with a pretty boring war ash and cannot be infused. The magic scaling is also really bad – overall, the weapon simply doesn’t make a good impression.
The user describes it as a “slap in the face” and asks, visibly frustrated: “Why does FromSoftware do this? I would prefer if this thing didn’t exist in its current state at all.”
What do other players say? The user is not alone in his opinion. Many comments under the Reddit post agree with him:
- “When I read the title, I immediately knew which weapon I would see when I clicked on the picture,” writes Ameliorated_Potato on Reddit.
- “Yes, that thing is junk. I was very, very disappointed,” agrees the user InfiniDragon in his post on Reddit.
- “It’s so bad, it must be bugged,” wonders hipdashopotamus on Reddit.
In fact, anyone who has been disappointed by the sword should give it another chance now. As wished on Reddit, the weapon has received an adjustment in the latest patch. Whether it really becomes usable as a result remains to be seen in practice. On MeinMMO you can find the exact patch notes for version 1.12.3.
