In Monster Hunter Wilds, there are many powerful opponents that can inflict great damage. One of the strongest can take you out of the game with a single attack. The community therefore finds creative ways to avoid your own death.
Which monster can take you out so quickly? The dangerous enemy is the apex monster of the Ice Shard Cliffs: Jin Dahaad. Not only is it extremely large compared to most monsters and has good defense due to its dorsal fin, it also has an attack that can send you flying into a wheelbarrow with one hit.
It spins like a snake, wrapping itself with sharp, giant icicles, which it charges up to then explode in a gigantic supernova. Players only have a few seconds to protect themselves; if they fail and get hit by the attack, they are instantly knocked out and taken back to the camp.
Due to the short time they have, many players struggle with this attack and therefore often fail in the hunt for Jin Dahaad. The community repeatedly uses this as an opportunity to develop creative ways to survive its supernova.
Many ways lead to the kill of Jin Dahaad
How do you survive the supernova? The game presents an easier way by placing “huge ice blocks” in the combat area. You can aim for these with your slingshot in the heat of battle and bring them down with the appropriate button.
This will cause them to fall and leave behind a medium-sized pile of ice, behind which you can hide from the attack. If you position yourself correctly behind it, you can easily survive the attack and continue your hunt afterward.
It is also possible to survive the attack if you have the right buffs and a strong build. You should focus on defense and protection from ice damage if that is your goal.
Are there other methods? However, since there is little time for this maneuver, and you often find yourself in the predicament that these ice blocks are too far away from you, the community has discovered additional ways to survive:
- Players fighting with dual blades have the advantage that, with good timing of the attack, they can simply dodge, as tackytoaster shows via TikTok.
- animblo shows via Reddit that you can simply knock yourself out with a barrel bomb at the right moment to avoid being hit by the supernova.
- User Fat_Foot shows an absolutely foolproof method via Reddit, by simply fast traveling to a campsite while Jin Dahaad is curling up in the ice.
However, during their experimentation, fans have also found some ways you should definitely not try:
- During the attack, ljhben calls his Saikrii to see if it avoids it for him. It doesn’t. You can admire the result in his post on Reddit.
- Via x.com, user @masapipi1202 shares his attempt to simply grill during the attack. This attempt also fails catastrophically.
