“Our Flag Means Death” has been canceled after 2 seasons. However, a fan petition aims to save the pirate series. More than 49,000 people have already signed.
Our Flag Means Death is a comedy series in which the British aristocrat Stede Bonnet now wants to navigate the seas as a pirate and meets the infamous Captain Blackbeard along the way.
The series debuted in March 2022 on HBO Max. In Germany, the first season of Our Flags Mean Death can be watched via Amazon Prime, Apple TV, MagentaTV, maxdome, or RTL+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the series receives excellent ratings from both critics and viewers:
- 94% Tomatometer
- 95% Audience Score
However, after 2 seasons, it’s over now, as Max has prematurely canceled the series – despite plans already being in place for the conclusion of Our Flags Mean Death in a 3rd season. You can read more about the end of the pirate series here with our colleagues from Moviepilot.

But fans do not want to passively watch the series come to an end and have created a website with the motto “Renew as a Crew” and started a petition on change.org – hoping to save Our Flags Mean Death.
What are the fans demanding in the petition? The fan petition is directed at HBO and advocates for the renewal of the series.
For example, it states in the text of the petition:
The news of the cancellation of Our Flag Means Death is very disappointing. Creator David Jenkins planned a three-season saga, and if the production team is determined to embark on another journey, we are ready to support it. It’s time for us to don our garments and prepare for battle!

There is little time left to reverse the decision of those responsible regarding the cancellation of the series. Thus, they want to now fight for Our Flag Means Death “with sheer volume and love”.
However, it is also emphasized that all parties involved should remain positive and that threats from the petition would do more harm than good.
How is the petition doing? So far, it has collected a total of 49,242 votes. Just today, up to the writing of this article, 4,670 people have signed (as of January 15, 2024). This brings the petition close to its next goal of 50,000 votes. Whether HBO will eventually heed the fans’ request or if the series will perhaps be picked up by another network, as was the case with Lucifer, remains to be seen.
