The tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege has lost one of its most prominent casters and streamers: Michael “KiXSTAr” Stockley passed away at just 24 years old. His family announced: He died doing his second favorite thing in the world – driving. Rainbow Six Siege has postponed the start of the esports season in respect for the deceased and his relatives.
This is how the news of his death was announced: Stockley’s former casting partner, Parker “Interno” Mackay, shared a statement from the family (via twitter):
Stockley had spent the last 20 months back home with family during the COVID lockdown. He streamed from his room, shared meals with family, and spent a lot of time with relatives after being away for so long, traveling the world and meeting many people from the Rainbow Six Siege community.
When he started as a caster in Poland and was out of the house for the first time, he barely had any money: The community came together so that his mother had enough money for a ticket to visit him.
Throughout his career, the family saw how much the Rainbow Six Siege community and fans supported and respected their son. It made them very proud.
Stockley unexpectedly passed away on Monday, October 11. He had so many great plans for the future and there was so much he was looking forward to.
Died doing what he loved second most in the world
What did he die from? After the statement, Stockley’s former casting partner provided information on what Stockley died from. After consulting with the family, he announced:
“Michael died while doing what he loved second most in the world: driving. He was alone and no one else was injured or involved.”
These are reactions to the death: Esports teams like TSM FTX call Stockley a “pillar of the R6 community”; he gave the game a voice that was unmatched. The captain of Fnatic said Stockley was truly a treasure and would have put a smile on everyone around him.
A game designer from Rainbow Six Siege calls Stockley one of the brightest minds of the game. Without him, Siege will never be the same.
The official Twitter account of Rainbow Six Esports refers to Stockley as a “shining light” in the community. Out of respect for him, the start of the North American League is postponed. Details on when the league will start will be announced later.
Originally, Stockley was supposed to cast the event.
