Dark Souls 1 is one of the most significant games available on the market. Even today, Lordran attracts not only shells but also new players. Everything about the game is now known, yet a fan has shown that the community has made a mistake regarding a quest.
Which quest is it about? In Dark Souls 1, players can visit the Darkroot Garden, speak with Alvina, and then join the Forest Hunter covenant. When you return to where you came from and keep to the left, you will encounter the NPC “Shiva of the East.” This mysterious follower of the Forest Hunters will explain to you what the Forest Hunters are about and what you can expect.
Later in his quest, he will change his location and move to the notorious Blighttown. You will find him at the elevator that leads you to New Londo. For many, the quest ends here since FromSoftware has removed the rest of his mission from the game.
Cunning dataminers have discovered, however, that he is after the Chaos Blade. In the functioning quest, he would ask you if you know where the sword is located. If you had equipped the sword, he would attack you.
While the complete betrayal of Shiva cannot be activated in the game, the end of the quest is still present in the game and can even be triggered – a fan has managed to do this after exactly 14 years.
How to “complete” the quest
What does the player show? The player splee5556 has dealt with Shiva’s quest in his YouTube video. According to him, it is clear that the quest cannot continue, but there is a way to at least see the end of the quest and even complete it.
To do this, the YouTuber refers to the Black Eye. splee5556 argues that Shiva, due to his betrayal, has his own Eye that can be used to invade his world – but it is hidden in the data and inaccessible to players.
For this reason, fans have to improvise, as there is another Black Eye that is accessible. If you free the NPC Lautrec and he kills the firekeeper Anastacia, she drops the only Black Eye.
Unfortunately, this is associated with Lautrec’s invasion ID, but with a glitch, one could still use the item to challenge Shiva and do so without mods.
How do I challenge Shiva? To challenge Shiva, you need the Black Eye from Anastacia and access to the Painted World of Ariamis. The glitch that splee5556 uses is called “Item Swap.” He exploits the switch of equipped items and a short-distance jump to transfer the animation of his first item to another. This allows you to use items that normally cannot be used.
The Painted World of Ariamis is where Shiva is hiding for the quest. At the statue where the phalanxes are located, you will find the exact invasion point. He uses the highest tower in the painting and then jumps down onto the concrete cages. From there, he performs the Item Swap and can then visit Shiva’s world.
What do I get for the invasion? Not much, actually. Shiva has no dialogue, and in battle, you have to fight against Shiva and his ninja assistant. If you defeat Shiva, he drops nothing; you only receive a sign of vengeance that you can redeem with Gwyndolin.
However, the invasion has one effect. Shiva will still exist in the real world, and if you try to talk to him, he just stands there and does not interact with you. It is clear that the quest was not meant to be completed, but it is interesting that fans still have the opportunity to get back at Shiva without mods.
