A German player has made an offer in the official World of Warcraft forums to gift another player a year-long subscription to WoW. The potential winner must be “raid-ready” within eleven days of the release of WoW Classic.
What is this challenge? The challenge was made by forum user Zaep. He wants to pay for a whole year of subscription for the first player who becomes “raid-ready” within eleven days after the release of WoW Classic. This corresponds to a value of at least €131.88 in the official store. (twice 180 days at €65.94 each)
Zaep offers this challenge because another guild had set this as a goal. (via Gamestar)
However, the corresponding thread has already been edited and the information has disappeared. Zaep doubted whether anyone would succeed and thus started his own thread.
When exactly WoW Classic will be released is still unknown. It is only known that it is supposed to be released in “Summer 2019” and requires an active WoW subscription.
How to win a Yearly subscription in WoW Classic
How can I participate? To participate, you must add the player Zaep as a friend on your friends list at least 24 hours before the release of Classic. His BattleTag is provided in the corresponding forum post.
The first player to meet the requirements will then be sponsored the yearly subscription by him. According to the list that Zaep keeps, only 6 people are currently participating in the challenge. (as of May 9 at 18:40)
What do I have to do? The only requirement to win is that you can theoretically defeat the first raids in WoW Classic within these eleven days – in this case, Onyxia’s Lair. Zaep has listed what you must do:
- Reach level 60
- Play on the EU-West server
- Own the key to Onyxia’s Lair (must be displayed as “not tradable” in the trade window)
- 80% of the gear must be “Best-in-Slot”
- Zaep’s Battle.net account must be added 24 hours prior to Classic release
The first player to meet all these requirements will receive the subscription.
Why is it so difficult? Although WoW Classic comes with some changes, like a more modern loot system, many things in Classic simply take longer. Because:
- There is no dungeon browser
- and no flying mounts
- Learning to ride and “normal mounts” requires a lot of gold and grind
As a result, leveling alone takes a long time. Zaep himself stated that he took four weeks to be able to raid. The user Hunterchar noted that one of the requirements is practically impossible.
To obtain the key to Onyxia’s Lair, the raid “Upper Blackrock Spire” must be completed. For this, you need nine other players.
Additionally, you have to complete “Lower Blackrock Spire” multiple times, and all other players must leave you specific loot so that you can even gain access to the upper spire.
Alternatively, you would need to find someone who already owns the key to the dungeon. There are justified doubts about whether this is even feasible.
So here is the current status of WoW Classic:
