In a trailer for the science fiction role-playing game Exodus, Matthew McConaughey tells you about a cosmic threat that sounds even scarier than the Reapers from Mass Effect. The game will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
What kind of game is Exodus? The developers at Archetype Entertainment describe their game as a AAA-quality sci-fi action-adventure RPG. Exodus is supposed to mark the beginning of a whole franchise.
In a new trailer for Exodus, viewers are greeted by a familiar voice. The narrator, a character named C. C. Orlev, is voiced by Matthew McConaughey. He played the lead role in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi film Interstellar, among other works.
McConaughey talks in the trailer about a horrific threat that travels through the world of Exodus in the cosmos. A foe so cruel that those who escape from it alive will never enter space again:

Who are these enemies? Their name is Mara Yama. Orlev describes them as monstrous “Celestials” that lurk in the darkest corners of the universe. There, they hunt living beings to devour them, feeding on their emotions and thoughts.
The ships of the Mara Yama are cloaked in the remains of the unfortunate souls who could not escape them. It all looks very creepy and may even surpass the terror of the Reapers from Mass Effect. While they were not exactly cuddly, their horror was significantly subtler than that of the Mara Yama.
Who are the developers? Archetype Entertainment was founded in 2019 as a division of Wizards of the Coast. You might know this name from Baldur’s Gate 3, as the fantasy role-playing game is based on a license from the company.
The studio head is Bioware veteran James Ohlen, who has worked as a Creative Director on titles such as Dragon Age: Origins. Additionally, Drew Karpyshyn, the author of the first two Mass Effect games, is also on board.
Release date and exclusive “Founder” content
When will the game be released? The release date is still in the stars. Besides snippets of lore, the developers have not revealed much about the game so far. For example, there is no first look at the gameplay. The known platforms are PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
On the developers’ website, you can register as a “Founder” until December 8, 2024, and unlock exclusive game content. Currently, this only includes small cosmetic goodies like a special patch and the Exodus Aegis spacesuit.
