This week was marked by many events at gamescom. There were new infos about Throne and Liberty, Tarisland and some other games. Here we summarize all the important news around the MMORPGs.
The highlights of the week:
- Throne and Liberty revealed new information about its future. For the upcoming test, the PvP content will be restricted and autoplay will be disabled.
- Tarisland explained to us at gamescom how it wants to be successful. While it is very reminiscent of WoW, it has a slightly different target audience.
The highlight of the week: New World released the new transmog system, but it has received significant criticism. Players are particularly upset that they can only earn one token per week.
This week in the podcast: In their own podcast MMO News, the two MeinMMO editors Alexander Leitsch and Mark Sellner discuss this week the most important news around MMORPGs. Topics included the new Guild Wars 2 expansion, Blue Protocol, and the drama surrounding New World.

WoW launches hardcore servers, Guild Wars 2 brings new expansion
What happened with the big MMORPGs:
- WoW is nerfing 8 dungeons so you still have a chance. Additionally, there are new hints about the upcoming expansion. The story is said to come from Chris Metzen, who worked for Blizzard until Warlords of Draenor.
- New hardcore servers have launched in WoW Classic. Additionally, the dungeon finder will be introduced in WOTLK Classic in the near future, even though Blizzard initially decided against it.
- Guild Wars 2 has launched its new expansion Secrets of the Obscure. This includes the fairest season pass of all time.
- Final Fantasy XIV is launching its Rising event today, August 27th. There you can earn a mount that transforms you into a phoenix (via FFXIV).
- A patch has been released in Black Desert with a new monster zone, new events, and class changes (via BDO).
- ESO has released the latest update 39, which has made changes to quests and to PvP. Additionally, we have an exciting piece of news from gamescom that we will share on Monday.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- In a new MMORPG on Steam, you are guaranteed to be the best player, as there are only NPCs in the world.
- The first big event centered around music and food starts in Palia on August 29 (via Palia).
- Old School RuneScape is getting the new skill Sailing. It is the first since the rework of 2013 (via reddit).
- Aika Online is an old title from 2009 that was shut down two years ago. Now it is set to make a comeback (via MassivelyOP).

What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Corepunk is one of the most exciting MMORPGs in development and wants to finally start first tests in September.
- The upcoming MMO from Ghostcrawler is still a long way off, but everything said so far sounds great.
- The developers of the PvE MMORPG Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen are satisfied with the pre-alpha and want to go online 24/7 later this year (via MassivelyOP).
