The upcoming survival MMO EVE Frontier presents a unique opportunity where you will never run out of playable content.
What game is it? EVE Frontier is the latest game from CCP Games, the developer studio behind the well-known MMORPG EVE Online. The game is set to become a survival MMO that aims to offer a lot of freedom and sandbox mechanics.
The aim of the game is – as is typical for survival games – to survive in space while exploring the vastness of the universe. Players are expected to have the option to permanently change the world through blockchain technology.
A release date for EVE Frontier is currently not known, but those who want to take an early look at the MMO can purchase Founder Access. Upon its full release, EVE Frontier is expected to be free-to-play.
Too little content for greedy players
What is the problem? Many online games face the issue that they cannot deliver new content as quickly as players can consume the existing content. Often, the criticism is heard that players have nothing left to do after just a few weeks in a game. The blockchain technology is characterized by being decentralized, meaning it does not reside in one place but is distributed across many. This way, the developer does not need to approve new mods individually every time. Players can offer these in real-time while other players are gaming on the server.
In EVE Frontier, there will be a central modding tool as well as the so-called “Game Engine Bridge” tool, with which even games can be created within EVE Frontier. What could new content look like? EVE Frontier recently held a so-called “hackathon”. This was a competition where players were to create new content for EVE Frontier within 2 days that would leave a lasting effect. There was over $6,000 in prize money (via X).
During this hackathon, a system that generates a random planet was showcased. Players can then prove that they were the first to discover such a planet and claim it for themselves. In addition, mods like new quest givers, bounty boards, and fully automated PvP modes are possible.
