In Pokémon GO, a glitch is supposed to grant you a special candy blessing with Purmel, but you should be cautious about it. We at MeinMMO have looked into what it’s all about and what dangers it brings.
Which Pokémon is it about? Since December 2022, you can secure the bug Pokémon Purmel in Pokémon GO with the help of your postcards. This Pokémon has various patterns from different regions of the world that can evolve from Puponcho to Vivillon.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that one mainly needs one thing to secure all variants of Vivillon: lots of candies. Now a glitch is supposed to help you and grant you heaps of them.
What trainers report about the glitch and why it can also bring you a significant disadvantage, we have summarized for you below.

What glitch are we talking about? As shared by reddit user ExTeNdEnD in his post, a special glitch for the bug Pokémon Purmel has been discovered. This is supposed to bring you lots of candies by specially feeding and walking with your Purmel.
According to the post, the original discovery of the glitch came from a German Facebook group about Pokémon GO. It is explained that you should take a Purmel as a buddy and feed it with Knursp.
After a subsequent clever buddy switch, a glitch in the game is supposed to occur, which is supposed to grant you heaps of candies while walking with this Purmel. Some trainers have reportedly tried it right away and are happy about their success (via reddit.com):
- ZekromFPS: “It works!!! From 22 candies to 96 in just 1 km! OMG!!”
- Old_Camera: “For me, it looks like I got 51 candies on the first kilometer, 34 on the next kilometer, and 12 candies on the third kilometer. Did anyone else have the same experience? I will go for a hike later. Maybe I just use a Knursp with a new Purmel.”
- ExTeNdEnD: “I tested the glitch. It works, turns 1 candy after 1 kilometer into 50 candies for the kilometer walked.”
Does it work with other monsters too? The reddit user taixun4532 is less surprised about this glitch. He is already aware of it in the game for some time, which is why he explains to other trainers that it is not limited to Purmel. He writes (via reddit.com): “You can do this with any Pokémon.”
However, he points out that the number of candies is still based on the kilometers a monster normally has to walk for one candy. Some monsters still need a walking distance of up to 20 kilometers to secure the candies.
Additionally, the glitch does not affect XL candies. According to taixun4532, it is therefore especially interesting for monsters with a short walking distance, such as Purmel (via reddit.com).
Why you should be careful not to use the glitch
However, even though the glitch is supposed to work well and sounds very tempting as it could literally grant you a real candy blessing, you should handle it with caution. This functionality does not belong to the actual game idea of Pokémon GO.
You are exploiting a bug in the game to gain an advantage, which Niantic could possibly punish with a ban. The moderator Noitalein also points this out under the reddit post:
Hello everyone! I just wanted to point out that this is technically bug abuse and – aside from other bugs that might let you catch a Pokémon half a second faster than others – can give you great advantages over other players. In other, clearer words: This violates Niantic’s terms of service and the spirit of the game. You use it at your own risk. Your accounts could be banned if you use this bug. Moreover, it’s probably very easy for Niantic to track, so… be aware of that.
