In almost every shooter, cheaters are present. They use cheats and hacks, come out as winners and thereby destroy the fun for other players. However, such a cheater has now been caught by Fortnite and dragged to court. The verdict is devastating.
How did the story begin? Fortnite reported in December 2024 that they had caught a cheater who had used cheats in a tournament. The cheats consisted of software and hardware cheats. The cheater then tried to remain undetected by creating new accounts, but Epic Games was able to locate him.
In a post on X, they shared their discovery with the community and clarified once again: Anyone who cheats in Fortnite in any way will be punished. Everything will be done to stop the unsportsmanlike behavior of some players, even if it means taking legal action.
In this case, a court was tasked with taking on the case and ensuring justice, and the verdict has now been rendered after months of waiting.
Cheater ignores trial, with serious consequences
What was the verdict? A judge took on the case. A trial was scheduled and the cheater was invited to attend the court date – but the cheater did not show up.
The court therefore decided without the defendant and imposed a fine of $175,000 (approximately €149,166.50 at the current exchange rate as of June 26, 2025). In addition, the player received a lifetime ban from Fortnite. The money received would then be donated by Epic Games to a charitable cause.
On X, Epic Games celebrated its victory over the cheater and on Reddit, fans gathered to digest the verdict for the first time. The following voices can be heard:

It remains to be seen whether Fortnite could take a more aggressive stance against cheaters. Another studio has already set an example.
