Fans of Warhammer or anyone who wants to become one can currently grab the full version of a really good game for free on Steam. However, you shouldn’t take too long to decide.
What kind of game is it? Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a co-op action game that somewhat resembles Left 4 Dead in its gameplay. This means: In teams of 4, you fight your way through hordes of enemies and slash everything in sight. There is also a PvP mode where two teams of four face off against each other.
The game is set during the End Times of Warhammer Fantasy. In melee and from a first-person perspective, you will battle against ratmen, beastmen, and other creatures.
Originally released on March 8, 2018, on Steam, the game is currently being offered for free instead of its price of €27.99 on the platform. However, this is a limited-time offer.
How fast do you need to be? Pretty quick. The game will be free to play until November 23 at 7:00 PM. The good news: You can keep Warhammer: Vermintide 2 even after the promotion ends, as long as you add the game to your Steam library by then.
Is the game good? Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is considered one of the best co-op games in the said universe and is also a great way to dive into the world, which can be quite overwhelming for newcomers.
On Metascore, the game has a critic score of 82 points, while on Steam, it’s even better. In the German-speaking region, the average is a solid 91% positive reviews, and internationally, it’s still 84%.
User ratings praise the fast-paced slashing fun, the combat system with satisfying hit feedback, and the co-op gameplay that develops a nice loop in a group.
Is the game still worth it today? Although 7 years have passed since the release, the title is still receiving content updates. Just this week, on November 20, the free DLC “Return to the Reik” was released. It is available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) and consoles PS4/PS5 as well as Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S.
The DLC adds a new map to the game, already known to veterans from part 1 – albeit slightly altered. And this is not expected to be the last update. The developers revealed in a blog post that more maps will follow.
Maybe you belong to those people who have been thinking about entering the Warhammer universe for a while but haven’t quite mustered the courage yet. Vermintide 2 might be a good entry point. You can access it for free on Steam until the evening of November 23, 2025.
