A trainer reports a tragic incident during a Community Day in Pokémon GO, which left him completely devastated. Because a thief stole from the player more than one would expect at first glance.
What happened to the player? A trainer spoke up in the Pokémon GO subreddit because he needed “a vent to express his sorrow and frustration” after a terrible experience during the last Community Day with Monozyto (FreshAntelope1161 on Reddit).
While he was out in the city during the mentioned Community Day, he was surprised by a cyclist who swooped by, snatched his phone, and quickly rode off – along with the device.
The player was able to get a replacement phone the very next day, the day he also published the post. But when he installed Pokémon GO and logged in, he was confronted with a nasty surprise. Almost all of his Pokémon were gone.
“9 years have passed.”
What is the player mourning so much? It seems the thief took advantage of the fact that he was able to access the player’s unlocked phone, with the situation worked to his benefit. Almost all of the player’s Pokémon were transferred.
He says he deleted and reinstalled the app to make sure it wasn’t a mistake. But the bitter truth remained that he had nearly lost his entire Pokémon collection.
The player is heartbroken. He had started playing on the very first day of summer 2016 and lost 9 years of gameplay in Pokémon GO due to the theft by the cyclist.
How does the community react to the player’s story? Within the community, players have little advice on how he could turn the situation around for the better. However, they point out that within one day it’s hardly possible to send all Pokémon to another account, especially when the player has been collecting for 9 years. But this only proves how nasty the thief really is, as b-mw notes on Reddit: “He transferred [the Pokémon] in the game, meaning he deleted them. He didn’t want to steal the Pokémon, but just wanted to erase all the effort for his own amusement.”
“Wow – that’s a new low for a crime,” comments Spittyfire-1315 (on Reddit). Shadowzl also writes (on Reddit): “On one hand, there’s breaking into a person’s home to steal their belongings, and on the other hand, there’s the decision to then burn the house down to hit someone who’s already down with an extra blow.”
The robbed trainer didn’t expect any help on Reddit, but as he described himself, he simply had the need to share and give space to his grief. Another player, however, turned to the community to understand an undefinable graphic in his Pokémon collection. But the response was more unpleasant than he probably hoped: Trainer wonders about a monster in Pokémon GO, inadvertently revealing himself as a cheater
