In the movies of Harry Potter, there were a variety of people who were hired for the films. One actor even received a tailor-made role that did not exist in the books.
Besides Harry, Ron, and Hermione, there are many other roles in the Harry Potter films that were portrayed by actors. There were corresponding castings where the actors had to prove themselves.
One actor stood out so much that a role was specially created for him in one of the films – and it doesn’t even exist in the books.
Director convinced, role received
Which role is it? The convincing actor was Tolga Safer. The performer from London auditioned for the 4th film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He wanted to play the role of Viktor Krum, the Quidditch national player and student from Durmstrang, who participated in the Triwizard Tournament like Harry.
However, he was rejected in the audition for the role. The filmmakers of the 4th film in the series simply envisioned an actor for the role of Krum who was a bit taller and more muscular, as they believed such an actor would be a better fit for the role.
However, Safer left a lasting impression in his audition, including on none other than Mike Newell, the director of the film. Yet despite the convincing performance, the role of Krum went to Stanislaw Janewski and not to Safer, among other reasons mentioned earlier.
Since Mike Newell was so taken with Tolga Safer and wanted him to be part of the film, he decided to take a different path. A new role was created especially for Safer that did not exist in the books: the assistant to Igor Karkaroff, the headmaster of Durmstrang.
Even if this role may not have the same significance for the film, ultimately, the wishes of both Safer and Newell were fulfilled: Safer was part of the 4th film in the Harry Potter universe.
While Safer’s role is about a detail that only exists in one of the films and not in the book, there are also details that were different in the books than how they were implemented in the films. Some of them can be found in our list of 10 details of Harry Potter that are simply better in the books.
