What kind of error is this? Error 37 was displayed in 2012 at the launch of Diablo III when you wanted to start the game. The error meant that the servers could not handle the influx of players. So those who wanted to play had to be patient and try again later. This frustrated many players back in 2012 who wanted to start the action RPG right at midnight.
Why are the same problems feared? Blizzard completely underestimated the influx for Diablo III back then and had to work hard behind the scenes on the servers to solve problems. Many believe this could happen again and that Blizzard might underestimate the high interest, reports the portal PC Gamer.
Why was this a hot topic? Blizzard relied on always-online copy protection for Diablo 3 for the first time. This means: You must always be online if you want to play the game. This applies even if you just want to play the single-player campaign. Even if you wanted to play completely alone, “Error 37” prevented you from starting your game.
Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime explained at the launch that it was important for Diablo to always be connected to the internet. This caused many players, who were having significant issues with the game at that time, to shake their heads (via pcgamer.com).
