A classic from the Soulsborne games is also present in the new DLC of Elden Ring: illusory walls. However, players have now found some buggy variants of them – and some are taking advantage of this.
What are illusory walls? This type of wall has existed in the Soulsborne games for many years. As the name suggests, they are just an illusion. Behind these false walls, secret passages are hidden.
Sometimes they lead only to a hidden treasure chest, an item, or a save point. In other cases, FromSoftware hides an entire area behind such a wall. The studio likes to hide several hours of gameplay and risks that inattentive players do not find these optional areas.
These walls are also present in Elden Ring and, of course, in the new DLC Shadow of the Erdtree, with its vast, often complicated world.
How do you find the walls? Players who have been playing FromSoftware games for a long time know all this and therefore run around the walls of the levels like crazy. Especially when a spot looks suspiciously like a passage, they roll against it as much as they can.
When playing online, messages left by players on the ground can help at these spots. They point to illusory walls. However, a nasty bug is currently causing trouble in Elden Ring, and the community is exploiting this.

A bug that leads to death
What does the bug look like? In certain places, rolling against the walls causes no secret passage to open, but instead, you fall to your death through the texture.
Your character essentially falls out of the map and has no chance of being rescued. The problem is likely due to a missing barrier at this point.
This was also a surprise for the Reddit user svmmpng. He shared a clip of it on Reddit and warned about the bug that suddenly makes exploration and finding secrets very dangerous.
After all, you often carry many runes while traversing the dungeons and want to avoid dying at all costs.
Was this an isolated case? Looking at the comments from other players under the post, it becomes clear that quite a few others have also fallen victim to the bug.
The user nicsaweiner says that the same thing happened to him. However, there were several messages on the ground in front of his supposed illusory wall. Other players had left them, saying: “Illusory wall ahead.”
Of course, he was then motivated to roll against it, already excited about what might await him behind it. Unfortunately, as often happens in Soulsborne games, the comments turned out to be a troll.
Another player named Prudent-Cry-9260 therefore left another message on the ground warning about the false tips from nasty players. There are already several of them – which naturally leads to considerable chaos.
At the corresponding spots, various messages pile up that contradict each other. As a suspicious Elden Ring player, you can never be too cautious, so it’s better to follow the warnings rather than the very practical hints to just roll against a wall here.
