The PvE MMORPG Embers Adrift left early access on April 29, 2025, and received the largest patch to date. However, the game from Stormhaven is not really managing to excite players. Quite the opposite: the peak is just 84 concurrent active players, a month ago. Now about 50 players are regularly online (Source: steamdb.info).
So far, the 106 reviews have shown 73 percent positive ratings, although the trend on Steam is slightly negative, with 68 percent positive ratings in the last 30 days.
The community primarily criticizes the solo-unfriendliness, the tedious progression, and the steep entry. This is a hardcore MMORPG for fans of the old school. It also fits that Embers Adrift uses a buy2play model (price: around 29 euros) with an optional subscription but no in-game shop.
In addition, you can expect a strong PvE focus with 24-player raids, special GM events, crafting, day-night cycles that affect the world, and quests in which your decisions are supposed to influence the outcome. By the way, the subscription was initially mandatory in Embers Adrift: MMORPG completely forgoes PvP – removes the subscription so everyone can play it
