Phasmophobia
What is Phasmophobia? The horror game Phasmophobia comes from a small indie studio in the UK and is currently still in Early Access. You play as a ghost hunter and must find ghosts in various buildings together with other players.
The aim is to find out what type of ghost the target is – Banshee, Djinn, Poltergeist, or something else? To do this, you must search for clues, such as notably cold temperatures or get the ghost to communicate with you. With various items, you gather evidence to help identify the ghost.
But beware: It can get angry and kill you, especially if you insult it. Phasmophobia supports VR and the major distinction is that the ghosts listen to you when you speak into the microphone:
How does it perform on Twitch? Shortly after its Early Access release on September 18, Phasmophobia reached over 256,000 viewers on Twitch simultaneously. Since then, the numbers have fluctuated somewhat, and a specific trend cannot yet be established.
Viewers seem to enjoy how streamers get scared or react upon discovering a ghost. Apparently, it’s less about the game itself and more about the reactions displayed.
This could be one reason why hackers are now roaming in Phasmophobia. They are not looking to win as in other games but primarily troll streamers, who then get adequately scared.
How did it benefit from Twitch? Aside from the viewer counts on Twitch, the player counts have skyrocketed. Since the release, thousands of players have watched Phasmophobia and are still playing it.
On Steam, the game has a rating of 97% positive votes and over 64,000 players simultaneously. For an indie game in such early development stages, this is an excellent figure and a good sign for the future, although a certain level of expectation is now also placed on the developers.
