Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout
What is Fall Guys? The colorful party game is like “Takeshi’s Castle” for PlayStation 4 and PC. Dozens of colorful potato beans with arms and legs shove and wiggle through various tasks and levels to ultimately claim victory with a big crown.
Players must dodge massive balls, jump over obstacles, or break through hidden doors to move ahead. Occasionally, players are placed into teams to complete certain games together.
How does Fall Guys perform on Twitch? Fall Guys was released in August 2020 and immediately rose to number 1 on Twitch. The game quickly surpassed long-standing titles like Fortnite, LoL, and GTA V and managed to stay at the top for a long time.
The popularity likely lies in the party nature of the game. Every viewer instantly understands what it’s about and can cheer for their favorite streamer. Or hope they are eliminated, as apparently we love it when others fail.
The hit even inspired globally renowned and massive streamers like TimTheTatman and xQc, who entertained their viewers with the colorful chaos.
How did it benefit from Twitch? The player numbers for Fall Guys soared similarly to the viewer counts. Shortly after release, there were already 76,000 players on Steam, and soon after over 172,000 simultaneously at peak (via steamcharts).
While the hype has somewhat cooled down, there are still nearly 27,000 players playing Fall Guys on PC in October 2020, on average. It had one of the best starts of any PC game since 2016.
The developers capitalized on this by keeping players engaged with new seasons and content – such as new games and cosmetics. The future also looks quite promising. While there are no concrete plans yet, some of the developers of Fall Guys apparently wish for a version for Xbox and Nintendo Switch. According to leaks, an Xbox version may already exist.
