Are you waiting for the next drop and really want to buy a PS5? MeinMMO explains what speaks against buying a PlayStation 5.
Those who want to buy a PS5 often feel stressed: You track tickers and try to be there for every drop to finally get your great console. But is all that stress worth it in the end for a console that costs me 500 Euros?
MeinMMO explains what speaks against buying a PS5.
Few exclusive games for the PS5
Many users buy different consoles or already have an Xbox, a PS5, and a Nintendo Switch sitting on their shelf. The reason for this is often that you need a specific console for exclusive games. Such a game often ensures that a console like the Nintendo Switch becomes a bestseller.
The problem with the PS5, however, is that at this point in time there are only a handful of these exclusives. Games like Astro’s Playroom, Returnal, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart are recommended games; however, they are not necessarily the ultimate selling argument for why you need a console right now, especially if you still own a PS4.
Many games work on PS4 and PS5
There are only a few games that you can really only play on the PS5. These include Astro’s Playroom or Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. For many other titles, like Horizon: Forbidden West or FIFA, Sony also offers a PS4 version. So if you really want to play the game, you can also play it on the PS4 and don’t need a PS5.
Many PS4 games can also be upgraded to the PS5 version later. Depending on the provider, either for around 10 Euros or for free.
The PS4 is currently available and still performs well in 2022
While Microsoft has now stopped producing the Xbox One, Sony continues to produce PS4 consoles. And the PS4 is significantly cheaper than the PS5.
If you already have a PS4 and only play on a Full HD device or a maximum WQHD monitor, the PS4 is still perfectly sufficient if you want to play games that Sony has released for both the PS4 and PS5.
It only becomes complicated if you already own a PS4 Pro. Because the Pro already supports 4K resolution in some games and with an adequate frame rate. However, if you want to get everything out of the PS5, you need a 4K TV with HDMI 2.1 support to benefit from the added performance and higher frame rates.

Alternatives to the PS5 are cheaper and also available
For the PS5, if you can get it, you need to pay around 500 Euros. Depending on the bundle, you might pay even more. However, for some alternatives in the console sector, you’ll pay less:
- For the Xbox Series S, you can already pay around 250 Euros with good offers and also get the performance of a next-gen console.
- You can get the Nintendo Switch for around 300 Euros, depending on the offer. For the Lite edition, you’ll pay less than 200 Euros but will have to forgo the docking mode.
However, you should note that none of the mentioned alternatives offer the same functions and features as the PS5. You get other functions and sometimes other exclusives or, in the case of the Switch, a handheld mode.
Sony is now also releasing exclusives for the PC
Those who wanted to play certain games had to buy a PlayStation for a long time. Because many games were released exclusively for Sony’s console. But that is currently changing.
Nowadays, you can also play games like God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, or Spider-Man on the PC, and Sony is considering bringing more exclusive titles to the PC.
There will likely still be games where Sony relies on time exclusivity that you can only play on the PS5 for a while. More interestingly, formerly PS5-exclusive titles will probably never appear on the Xbox and vice versa. PC gamers will likely benefit from this strategy in the long run.
Waiting for the PS5 Slim
Anyone who has seen the PS5 in a store or at friends’ houses knows: The PS5 is a real colossus and much larger than the previous generation (PS4). If you normally place your console under the TV or pack it into a cabinet niche, it may well be that the PS5 is simply too large. Thanks to a cool tip, you can even try without the console whether the PS5 fits in your living room.
And it is not unlikely that Sony will also release a slimmer version of the PS5 in the future. This could make all the customers happy who find the PS5 simply too big and too heavy. With the PS4, Sony released the Slim version about 2 years after the release.
The 6 reasons against the PS5 at a glance
- So far, there are hardly any exclusives for the PS5.
- Many games can be played on both the PS4 and the PS5.
- The PS4 is powerful, and many games still run smoothly in 2022.
- With the Nintendo Switch or Xbox Series S, you get good consoles for significantly less money.
- Many exclusives for PlayStation are now also available for PC.
- The PS5 Slim could become an alternative for many users to the large PS5.
