Tsukuyomi from Final Fantasy XIV
Who is she? Yotsuyu was a tyrannical ruler of the Doma region in the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV. She lured players in the course of the story around the liberation of the land from the Empire of Garlea into her castle to collapse it and bury the heroes. However, Yotsuyu and the samurai Gosetsu survived.
Gosetsu took Yotsuyu to an island, where he healed her and found that she had lost her memory. Yotsuyu transformed, becoming friendly and nice. However, when she confronted the heroes again, she regained her memories, her anger returned, and she transformed into the primal Tsukuyomi. Thus begins one of the most iconic battles of the MMORPG.
What role does she play in Final Fantasy XIV? Tsukuyomi represents one of the most well-known boss enemies in the story of FFXIV. The true tragedy of her story only becomes clear when the heroes must fight her in the trial Castrum Fluminis.
What makes her so “badass”? Tsukuyomi is torn by an inner conflict that rages between her old evil and her new good personality. This is reflected in her appearance. The left side of her body looks pale, while the right is noticeably darker.
During the fight, she has to confront the ghosts of her past, being haunted by apparitions of her parents, who abused and abandoned her. During the fight, one can almost feel sympathy for Tsukuyomi as one slowly understands why she became this despotic ruler. Accompanied by the fan-favorite music piece “Wayward Daughter”, you experience a boss fight that you won’t forget anytime soon.
