With Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the next installment of the popular shooter series will soon be released, and it is the first to offer cooperative gameplay. We have compiled five things you should consider before making a purchase.
When will Wolfenstein: Youngblood be released? The latest installment of the Wolfenstein series will be released on Friday, July 26, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. However, those who want to play on PC can get in earlier. Bethesda has already confirmed on Twitter that the PC release will take place on Thursday, July 25 at 7:00 PM:
What is the price of Youngblood? The price of the new Wolfenstein is the same across all platforms:
- The Wolfenstein Youngblood - Deluxe Edition (Deutsche Version) [Windows]* costs 39.99€
- The Standard Edition of Wolfenstein: Youngblood costs 29.99€ (currently unavailable on Amazon)
You can fight Nazis with friends
This is how the cooperative mode works: In Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the cooperative mode allows you to team up with a friend against the Nazi regime in Paris. The protagonists of the game are the daughters of BJ Blazkowicz, Jess and Soph.
In the cooperative mode, one of you plays as Jess, and the other as Soph. The twin sisters have identical abilities. The choice is purely cosmetic; there are no advantages or disadvantages for either heroine.
Soph and Jess are always part of the game. If someone does not want to play with someone else, they can simply play alone. An AI will then take over the role of the other sister.
The Buddy Pass of Wolfenstein: Youngblood offers this
What is the Buddy Pass? The Deluxe Edition of Youngblood includes a Buddy Pass. With this, you can invite a friend to play Youngblood with you without them needing to own the game themselves.
The Buddy Pass can be used as often as you want. You can invite multiple friends to play, but only one at a time. Those who do not own the game can only play if they have been invited.
Wolfenstein: Youngblood is also available uncut with swastikas in Germany
What versions are available: For Wolfenstein: Youngblood, there is a changed rating by the USK for the first time. It was decided that video games can also fall under the social adequacy clause, allowing for the depiction of Nazi symbolism. Therefore, there are both a German and an international version of Youngblood.
The international version offers the full, uncut experience of Wolfenstein: Youngblood – including the depiction of swastikas. Both versions are rated for ages 18 and up.
This is how you play Youngblood uncut: Both versions are freely accessible in Germany. If you want to play Youngblood uncut, you can simply grab the international version, which is also available for the same price on Amazon. However, there are two things to keep in mind:
- The international version does not support German voiceover
- You cannot switch between the German and international versions
You must decide on one of the two variants – or buy and play both versions separately.
First reviews of Wolfenstein: Youngblood
What are the first impressions? Our authors Jürgen and Benedict have already had the chance to play Youngblood. You can find their review of the new Wolfenstein in our test.
Our colleagues from Gamestar had the opportunity to play Youngblood back in June. Editor Petra Schmitz elaborates on what differentiates Youngblood from its predecessors and how the new Wolfenstein plays.
Some of the key features are:
- The strong co-op aspect that runs throughout the game
- More gameplay, less story than before – it’s “more focused on fun”
- Through levels and a type of scaling, Youngblood plays a bit more “arcady”

Crossplay is not planned yet
Can I play Wolfenstein: Youngblood with players on other platforms? Although Wolfenstein: Youngblood heavily emphasizes a cooperative experience, you cannot play with players on other platforms.
According to the official Twitter account of Wolfenstein, crossplay between PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch is currently not planned:
When does preload start and how large is the game?
This is how you can download Youngblood in advance: There is a preload for each version of the new Wolfenstein. Bethesda has already confirmed the times for this. According to the website vg247, the times are:
- For Xbox One on July 23 at 2:00 PM
- For PS4 48 hours before release
- On PC (Steam or Bethesda.net) on July 23 at 7:00 PM
- On Switch on July 20
Since all the data at the time of writing is already in the past, the preload should be running on all platforms, and you can already install the game.
The preload is expected to take up about 21GB. For PC, at least 40GB of free space is recommended.
The game should entertain you for about 20-30 hours, depending on your player type
Will you check out Youngblood, would you rather wait, or are you not interested in the spin-off?
