Final Fantasy XIV – The last patch before Endwalker
Genre: MMORPG | Developer: Square Enix | Platform: PC, Mac, PS4, PS5 | Release Date: August 27, 2013 | Model: Pay2Play
What kind of game is this? Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular MMORPGs on the market right now. Due to the major overhaul of the game since 2013, much has changed as regular content updates and expansions like Shadowbringers have introduced many contents for players.
The MMORPG resembles classic Japanese RPGs due to its strong focus on linear storytelling. In the endgame, you can expect many dungeons, challenging raids, and mini-games. However, you will have to deal with a combat system that can seem sluggish and slow, especially at the beginning.
The developers have acknowledged that the beginning is a bit slow. Therefore, in the summer of 2020, the entry was shortened and also expanded for free-to-play players.
These are the highlights of Final Fantasy XIV
Final Fantasy XIV offers everything an MMORPG heart desires:
- A massive game world
- A strong focus on storytelling
- Various “jobs” that function as classes. You can learn them all with one character and level them to max.
- Various playable races
- A deep crafting system
- Challenges in the form of dungeons, trials, and raids with different difficulty levels
Final Fantasy XIV is one of the most popular MMORPGs on Steam.
Why you should play FFXIV in April
On April 13, the first part of the new patch 5.5 will be released, marking the last major update before the upcoming expansion Endwalker. It concludes the ending of the story that has been ongoing since Shadowbringers while also introducing a new storyline leading to Endwalker. The second, smaller part of the patch, which will be released a bit later, will conclude the story.
You can expect new content:
- A new dungeon
- Conclusion of the 24-player raid YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse
- The trial encounter against Diamond Weapon in normal and hard mode
- Start of the open beta for the PS5 version of the MMORPG
- A lot of new cosmetic items and more
The update is also ideal for newcomers and returnees. As usual, the last update will be a “catch-up patch”. This means that non-raiders can also obtain top-level gear by completing the new Nier raid and receiving upgrades there.
Endwalker is expected to be released in the fall. You can find all the important information about the expansion summarized here: Final Fantasy XIV announces new expansion Endwalker – What we know so far.
