What is Star Trek Online? Star Trek Online (STO) is a theme park MMORPG that has been around for several years. During this time, the game has developed significantly. In STO, you play as a ship commander in the Star Trek universe.
In addition to outdoor missions with your character, a large part of the game takes place in space, where you command your own starship. The story occurs after the last movie of the Next Generation series. However, there are episodes that are set in the past.
What makes Star Trek Online special?
As in the series: Star Trek Online is structured in seasons and episodes, just like a Star Trek series. The episodes tell a continuous story, repeatedly placing emphasis on well-known episodes and movies from the Star Trek franchises.
Consequently, the Enterprise, Voyager, and Station Deep Space Nine play a role in the story. As a special bonus, the developers have often been able to recruit the original actors as voice actors for their respective characters in the game.
More Star Trek isn’t possible: Despite the age of Star Trek Online, the game continues to be regularly updated with new content. Moreover, the game closely follows the pulse of other Star Trek works. The current update revolves around the controversial Discovery series – again featuring the original voices of the actors.
Why might you not have had Star Trek Online on your radar?
Star Trek Online is now quite aged, and despite various graphic updates, it doesn’t look very modern anymore. This may have deterred some of you from trying out the game.
