The Destiny community constantly reaches new heights. We present to you the 5 hardest or craziest challenges that players have completed in Destiny 1 and Destiny 2.
If there really isn’t anything to do in the Destiny universe, the Guardians create their own tasks. Especially streamers and exceptional players are always in the news with incredible and absurd actions.
In the history of Destiny, for example, raid bosses have been defeated using musical instruments. Or the hardest content is tackled completely without weapons or finished at breathtaking speed.
We would like to present a selection of the 5 craziest community challenges from Destiny 1 and Destiny 2. Please note that these mentions represent the author’s opinions and are not in any particular order.
Crota – An often humiliated raid boss
Raid bosses are defeated solo: The first entry on our list is a classic: Crota. He was the boss in the raid ‘Crota’s End‘ from Destiny 1. For months, he was a joke within the Destiny community. After a player soloed the raid boss, gamers started imposing their own “handicaps” on themselves.
The Guardians found very creative ways to take down the Hive God. The most memorable was the musical approach by Gladd. The exceptional player launched a whole series of humiliations.
Among others, the boss was drummed to death or defeated with a “Guitar Hero” guitar. But the highlight was a dance battle. Gladd used a dance mat as an input device and danced quickly with Crota:
The fastest raid completion in Destiny
Speedruns in Destiny: Raids in the Destiny universe are usually considered challenging endgame activities. When a new raid goes live, the prestigious race for the ‘World’s First‘ – the first successful completion ever – begins.
Some raids are only completed after many hours. Afterwards, speedrunners compete against each other to set a new best time. They continuously optimize their strategies and fight for every second.
The “Destiny 2” raid ‘Scourge of the Past‘ is already completed in no time. The record is held by a fireteam led by the Swedish guardian Granger. They rushed through the raid and finished it in just 5 minutes and 23 seconds.
Bungie challenges the community
Insane community achievement: Before the launch of Shadowkeep, Bungie wanted to prepare the guardians for the Hive-infested moon. They challenged every single player of Destiny 2 to contribute to a community effort.
The challenge was to kill numerous enemies on Mars and complete activities. Specifically, the targets to be achieved were:
- Defeat 175,000 Escalation Protocol bosses from wave 7.
- Defeat 300 million Hive enemies on Mars.
- Defeat Nokris in the Mars Nightfall “Strange Terrain” 150,000 times.
- Defeat Xol in the Mars Nightfall “Will of the Thousands” 100,000 times.
- Use 300,000 Override Frequencies .
The players rolled up their sleeves and showed Bungie just how well the guardians can wipe out Hive. It is noteworthy that the players willingly collaborated towards a common goal.

A tough mission + Gladd + drums = ?
This is how professionals play tough missions: Gladd also made his mark in Destiny 2 by proving both his talent in Destiny and his sense of rhythm. This time, the member of the Redeem clan didn’t take on a raid boss. Instead, he went through the hard mission ‘Zero Hour‘ solo, with one limitation.
As a “small” limitation, he used a drum kit as an input device. So he drummed his way through the mission. What’s special is that during the activity, players are faced not only with tough battles and a tight time limit but also challenging jumping sections and the need to escape from a crazy vacuum lawnmower robot.
As Gladd himself writes under his video, this mission was particularly stressful and difficult. Especially the transition from drum control for movement to keys for shooting and jumping must have made him sweat.
Destiny in the Guinness Book
This is how you get into the record book: A raid team from Destiny 1 made it into a special edition of the Guinness Book of Records. Recorded in the book is an insane 60-hour marathon. A team defeated all raid bosses without dying or even using weapons.
The official entry reads: “On May 14, 2017, a team of raiders completed the epic quest, requiring “precise planning” and “careful strategies.” The team was led by the Redditor “GladHeAteHer182, aka Gladd.”
For this feat, the team consisted of 12 players, who took turns. Without breaks and sleep, this undertaking would not have been possible. The detailed process for the various raids can be seen here:
Too difficult for the community
This challenge could not be completed by the Guardians: The Destiny community has passed countless challenges, and often in curious ways. But on one challenge even the pros bit the dust.
The season pass content Black Armory gave guardians the opportunity to forge powerful weapons themselves. To do so, they had to unlock and activate the individual forges through lengthy quests. The last of these forges, the Bergusia Forge, was tied to a community puzzle.
Access was granted only when the so-called ‘Niobe Labs’ were deciphered. Despite the combined power of exceptional players like Gladd and the entire community, the puzzles could not be solved. Bungie opened the Bergusia Forge themselves.
But the puzzle was solved: Although the puzzle remained active and was cracked later, the pain of the untimely completion was deep. Bungie admitted that they had overdone it with the ‘Niobe Labs.’
The Destiny developer admitted to errors in puzzle design. Consequently, Bungie pledged to take the feedback from fans and the eager puzzle solvers to heart.
Likely, the community, with its crazy challenges and absolute dedication to Destiny, is partly to blame for the high difficulty. But this one failure does not diminish all the achievements and future feats of the guardians in any way.
What do you think of the crazy community challenges – is a special achievement not represented? What are your personal triumphs in the Destiny universe?
