In this list, we want to present 5 different events from different games that depict the end of the world in particularly terrifying ways. From mutated beings to the AI apocalypse, there are various approaches that depict disasters in their own authentic way… and can raise the heart rate while playing.

Ishimura Incident (Dead Space)
The flagship Ishimura was built to mine mineral-rich asteroids as a “Planet Cracker.” It represented hope and innovation and was considered a medical research ship as well, where research on viruses, toxins, and genetics was conducted.
In 2446, it has been operational for 62 years when the Ishimura discovers an alien “Marker” on Planet Aegis VII. This Marker is to be transported by the Ishimura, but things do not go as the crew had planned.
The Marker can emit a signal that causes not only hallucinations and madness but also reanimation. However, the term “reanimation” should be replaced rather with reanimation, as there is no talk of “life” in the condition of the affected.
They transform into grotesque, reanimated monsters known as “Necromorphs,” who begin to tear the rest of the crew apart. By the time a distress signal finally leaves the Ishimura, it was already too late.
A small team is sent to the Ishimura for repairs, which includes engineer Isaac Clarke. When they encounter the Necromorphs, this team is also wiped out, and all but Isaac fall victim to the Necromorphs. As the only survivor, Isaac must fight his way through the ship with these grotesque creatures, while the Marker tortures him with hallucinations that play on his hope and fear.
The Ishimura Incident is the trigger for all the other terrible occurrences in the Dead Space series, which seem to strive to outdo each other in their cruelty. And still, this incident is “only” in 5th place on this list.
