Just under a month before the launch of the PlayStation 5, many burning questions have been answered, but some details that players are desperately seeking answers to remain a mystery. Like these 4.
When exactly does the PS5 launch? With only about a month left until the official launch of the PS5, the PlayStation 5 will launch on November 19 in Germany and other European countries. In the USA, Canada, Japan, Mexico, and several other countries, Sony’s next-gen console will be available on November 12, one week earlier than in our region.
And regardless of whether technical details, the price, the launch titles, the noise level, or backward compatibility – many of the most pressing questions about the PS5 have already been clarified. However, some aspects surrounding the new PlayStation remain a secret, and players want answers there as soon as possible – like with these 4 mysteries.
When will there finally be more PS5 stock?
This question is likely on the minds of many fans and interested parties. Although the PS5 has been available for pre-order in two waves now, not everyone who wanted to secure Sony’s new console at launch has been able to do so.
Additionally, the pre-orders were somewhat chaotic, there were subsequent cancellations, and some people have “lost” their pre-orders that they thought were secure.
In short: There are still many players who would like to get a PS5 at launch. But will there be more consoles? Is there a 3rd wave? And if so, when? Before launch? For Christmas? Only in 2021? And what about retail?
As of now: It looks bleak, but there is still hope. Currently, the PS5 is sold out. Major retailers like MediaMarkt or Saturn say they will not be accepting new pre-orders for the foreseeable future because the quota is exhausted. Furthermore, it seems that retail will be empty due to Corona at the launch.
An old tweet from Sony, responding to the chaotic 1st wave, promises besides the already completed 2nd wave more consoles by the end of the year. And an insider also stated, that there could be new consoles starting October 5 (none have been released so far). Some players still hope that there might be stock after all. However, “by the end of the year” is a broadly defined term. It could mean anything from the launch period to just before Christmas.
Therefore, many hope for clear communication from Sony. Only the company has an overview of the quantities and can provide accurate information on whether, when, and how many PS5s might be provided.
Which SSDs are certified for the PS5?
The PS5 will offer an ultra-fast SSD that is supposed to reduce loading times to a new level (and according to early hands-on reports, it does), but the storage space is relatively limited at 825 GB. For example, if one were to install the entire PS Plus Collection, which PS5 owners receive with a PS Plus subscription at launch, the SSD would hit its capacity limits.

Some players will want to expand the storage capacity of their PS5. And this is where there are still uncertainties, and many are eagerly waiting for an official word from Sony.
It is now clear that the PS5 will support PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSDs. But which SSD models exactly? That’s important. Because PS5 games are optimized for the fast SSD of the PlayStation 5. Models that do not meet certain requirements may lead to issues. Therefore, Sony actually wants to publish an official list of certified SSD models for the PS5. But that has not yet happened.
In short: Currently, you should not buy an additional SSD for your PlayStation 5.
What about the user interface of the PS5?
This feature, or rather its absence, is currently being discussed widely. Because just under a month before the launch, it remains a mystery for most.
Apart from a small leak that merely showed the potential boot sequence, we still do not know exactly what the user interface, or the menu of the PS5, looks like.

Even during the first hands-on tests, this feature was reportedly not visible. According to reports, the system menus were not allowed to be opened during the YouTube Gaming Week in Japan.
But why? What is this secrecy about – especially regarding such a feature? This raises questions in the community, and some are worried that Sony might have problems and is hiding the UI for that reason. Others remain calm, pointing out that Sony has always successfully delivered the user interface in all previous PlayStation generations – why should it be different this time?
However, most agree: It’s about time to finally showcase this feature to the fans.
What exactly does the Create button on the DualSense controller of the PS5 do?
Similar to the user interface of the PS5, the new button on the DualSense controller is also a mystery. Instead of a share button, there is now a create button.
But what exactly the new create button can do is still undetermined. Sony is also keeping a big secret regarding this. During the first hands-on experiences reported during the YouTube Gaming Week Japan, this function was reportedly locked – for some reason.
According to rumors, the create button is supposed to work similarly to the share button of the DualShock 4, but it is tied to the Creation Studio, a sort of real-time editing tool. This is supposedly to make the creation of custom content faster and easier than before. However, these are unconfirmed rumors. And that’s why some fans are also hoping for clarity from Sony.
