This week, the MMORPG news revolved a lot around the Summer Game Fest. New information was shared about Throne and Liberty, Palworld, and Black Desert. There was also an exciting development in SWTOR and a discussion about the WoW clone Tarisland.
The highlights of the week:
- Throne and Liberty is planning a tech test in the West before the release. You can now sign up for it.
- Palworld, the crazy MMORPG where you can use Pokémon as weapons and shields, has announced its release. It is set to launch in Early Access on Steam in January 2024.
- Black Desert has released a trailer for the new expansion Land of the Morning Light. It will be available on June 14 and brings exciting new features for PvE fans.
The hot topic of the week: EA apparently wants to sell Star Wars: The Old Republic. A confirmed buyer interested in the purchase is the company Broadsword Online Games, which currently manages Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot.
The discussion of the week: First testers from the West were able to play Tarisland, the “WoW clone” from China. The gameplay looks surprisingly good and has the potential to take root here as well. What do you think of Tarisland?
New expansion for ESO, 9 class changes in WoW, and DDoS attacks in Aion
What happened in the big MMORPGs:
- WoW is bringing a small change to the vendor with the next major patch that will save you a lot of time and nerves. A balance patch has also been announced for June 6, which will make 9 classes stronger. Additionally, due to the release of Diablo 4, an item has become 60,000 Gold more expensive.
- ESO has released the new expansion Necrom this week. It features the new class Arcanist, new story, and new areas.
- Lost Ark is making one of the toughest raid bosses easier, sparking a discussion. Are we in the West perhaps too bad at playing?
- In Guild Wars 2, the Dragon Bash event, an annual event, started on Tuesday. Additionally, a test will take place in WvW from June 9 to 23, where there will be some new rewards (via GW2).
What happened in the small MMORPGs:
- Christoph Hartman has been Vice President of Amazon Games since 2018. He says: “Since I have been here, everything has gotten better” – and he is absolutely right and will make the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings great. Additionally, the first raid boss for 20 players in New World is now on the test server.
- The pure PvE MMORPG Embers Adrift is making its previous subscription optional and aims to reach a broader player base.
- Aion Classic has recently been subjected to increasing DDoS attacks and has now released a statement.

- The next GvG season in Albion Online has been announced for the period from June 17 to September 11 (via Albion Online).
What happened in the MMORPGs in development:
- Ashes of Creation has released new gameplay for a boss fight. The Twitch streamer Asmongold sees many positive aspects, but there is clear criticism in his stream chat.
- In Japan, new details about the launch of Blue Protocol have been released. This includes the time, first items in the shop, and the season pass. The developers also announced the sixth class (the Blitz Lancer) for August (via Blue Protocol DB).
