This year, 3 Body Problem was on everyone’s lips with the release of the Netflix adaptation by the Game-of-Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. But there is another film adaptation that you can watch completely for free.
Both series are based on the novel series The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu. The story is about humanity making contact with aliens on the planet Trisolaris.
However, the alien life form wants to invade the humans’ home to leave behind their own inhospitable planet – a conflict arises.

A Chinese production of 3 Body Problem was already released last year
What kind of production is this? The Chinese adaptation of the novels is a series from Tencent titled Three-Body. It premiered on January 15, 2023, in China.
On YouTube, you can find 30 episodes that last between 43 and 57 minutes. The series is available with English subtitles. You can also get German subtitles from YouTube’s auto-translate feature.

What do users say about the Chinese production? Both on Reddit and in the comments under the 1st episode on YouTube, there are several viewers who found the Tencent series much better than the Netflix production.
For example, @Jeity said: “It is really shocking how Da Shi has completely different personalities in this version and in the Netflix one. This version is sooo much better.” @weibojian3078 also made it clear in the YouTube comments that the Chinese version is the favored one: “I’m just here to wash my eyes LOL”.
This makes the Chinese version a good alternative that you should check out if you couldn’t connect with the Netflix production.
