This week, two popular MMORPGs revealed their plans for 2024. Players can look forward to one expansion for each game that the development teams have planned. This aligns them with two other major MMORPGs that will also release a DLC in 2024. MeinMMO presents what MMORPG fans can expect in this week’s recap.
The highlights of the week:
- The Elder Scrolls Online introduced the new expansion Gold Road at a reveal event. The expansion is set to launch on June 3, 2024, for PC, with the console version following on June 18, 2024. The main feature of the DLC will be the inscription system, which will allow skills to be customized.
- There will also be a new expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online. An unspecified add-on is scheduled to be released in fall 2024, bringing 4 new regions, a group instance, and a raid. Aside from that, the 2024 roadmap promises quite a bit of content for the current year.
Both The Elder Scrolls Online and The Lord of the Rings Online are popular MMORPGs. They are featured in the top 10 with the best reviews for the genre on Steam.
What else has happened? Patch 10.2.5 for World of Warcraft is finally live. There is a new capital for Night Elves, an expansion of the dragon riding feature, and a new event called Archives of Azeroth
.
Although the numbering suggests it is a smaller interim patch, there is a lot of new content. At launch, the servers even had to be shut down for 8 hours to deploy the update.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the expansion that will also be released in 2024:
Another MMORPG reveals its roadmap
This is what happened with the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW, Patch 10.2.5 caused a major incident. The follower dungeons led to a bug in the game, causing issues in Mythic+. Blizzard has since resolved the issue with a hotfix.
- A new patch was also released this week for Final Fantasy XIV. Version 6.55 prepares for the new story that will come with Dawntrail (via mmorpg.org.pl). The patch includes a new main scenario, emotes, cosmetics, and much more.

expansion in WoW Classic. Xal’atath appears at the end of a new quest line. Blizzard is hiding some hints pointing to the upcoming expansion. - Black Desert Online has changed its anti-cheat program. EAC was not effective, so Xigncode3 is now taking its place (via mmorpg.org.pl).
This is what happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- There is also a new expansion planned for EverQuest in December. Both EverQuest and EverQuest 2 will celebrate the “Year of Darkpaw” with events, quests, raids, and giveaways. The first game will have 16 events, while the sequel will bring back 9 old events.
- RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have been around for several years. However, the developers have now announced that the associated forums will close at the end of March. Instead, they plan to transition to modern platforms like Discord (via MassivelyOP).
This is what happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- The MMORPG Eternal Tomb has showcased some of its areas with a new trailer. There is a desert city with large ruins to see. Additionally, we see the magical attacks.
- The development team of Tarisland is still working out player feedback from the beta. This time they announced that there will be a new difficulty level. This is intended to provide the MMORPG with greater strategic depth.
- This week, the servers of the Korean version of Throne & Liberty were merged. The server merge brought changes to PvP and the auction house in the game (via MassivelyOP).
