Netmarble announced that we will be diving into the adventures of the mobile MMORPG Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds in 2021. The game is based on the well-known and successful JRPG series.
What is Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds? The anime MMORPG is planned for Android and iOS devices, but should also be playable on PC via emulator. The story revolves around a virtual reality game called Soul Divers that you must test. In the virtual reality, you encounter a mysterious woman named Rania, who asks you to rebuild a kingdom and save the world from destruction.
You explore the colorful anime world, where fast-paced and action-packed hack and slash battles await you. You create your heroes from the classes Witch, Swordman, Rogue, Engineer, and Destroyer. During your journeys, you meet NPCs who provide you with quests. You explore dungeons together with friends and also fight against boss monsters.
The Ni No Kuni series is praised for its exciting stories, anime graphics, and its varied gameplay, which sets itself apart from traditional JRPGs through fast yet tactical battles:
- The average rating of “Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered” (PS4, 2019) on Metacritic is 86%.
- The rating of “Ni No Kuni: Revenant Kingdom” (PS4, 2018) is 84% (via Metacritic).

What is special about the game? On the one hand, Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds looks like a playable anime and is based on the two single-player JRPGs Ni No Kuni: Dominion of the White Queen (PC, PS3, PS4, Nintendo Switch) from 2010 and Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom (PC, PS4) from 2018. This graphic style has defined the predecessors and contributed to their success.
On the other hand, you not only explore the world typically for an MMORPG, complete quests, and fight monsters. You also manage your own kingdom. You have to protect it from attacks and can attack other players’ kingdoms in PvP.
Furthermore, the story is in the foreground, narrated through cutscenes. You learn more about what the VR game and the destruction of the world are about.
Global release of Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds planned for 2021
When will the game come out? Netmarble has announced that Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds will be released internationally later this year (via The Korea Times). It is expected to launch first in Japan and Taiwan in the first half of 2021. The global release is then planned for the second half of the year. No exact dates have been released yet.
