This week saw two major releases in the MMORPG sector. Firstly, The Wagadu Chronicles, an MMORPG from Germany, was released, and secondly, the long-awaited Throne and Liberty launched in South Korea. MeinMMO summarizes the most important news of the week for you.
The highlights of the week:
- The Wagadu Chronicles starts in Early Access on Steam. The game comes from Twin Drums, a small development studio from Berlin. The MMORPG focuses on role-playing with Pen&Paper elements. There is also a player-driven economy, a free class system, and a turn-based combat system.
- Throne and Liberty celebrates its launch in South Korea. Player feedback has been positive after the first few hours: especially the graphics and performance leave a lasting impression. However, players want the autoplay back, as the quest system is rather average.
- The largest MMORPG on Steam, Lost Ark, entices with a major update. The update is so large that it must be split into two parts. This aims to attract especially veterans and returning players to the game.
What else happened? Tarisland has published the statistics of the beta. The development team was especially surprised that the harpy was killed so often. The reason for this is that it appears in the starting area, where players test the different classes.
During the two-week beta, players spent around 142 years of gameplay in the MMORPG. The most frequently defeated boss was an ancient tree, the raid boss of the level 40 raid.
Tarisland also introduced a new class this week:
In the land of MMORPGs, many updates for SWTOR, Mortal Online 2, and other games are pouring in
What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- In WoW, balance adjustments are being made. Both rogues and hunters as well as demon hunters have been hit hard. In contrast, death knights, summoners, and monks can look forward to a few buffs.
- The Season of Discovery has started in WoW Classic, but players are facing a problem. Bots are threatening to ruin the economy of the realm. The bots have become so efficient that they make back the subscription costs before Blizzard can ban the accounts.
- Black Desert Online has released new servers where player names are not displayed. Players do not see anyone opposite them except their own guild and party members. The development team aims to encourage players to treat all other adventurers as enemies (via MMORPG.org.pl).
What happened with the minor MMORPGs:
- Star Wars The Old Republic has received a new update. With “Chains in Darkness” there are new story content, a new world boss, and various adjustments. The world boss Droid FR3-D0M now makes life difficult for you with burning plasma spots on the ground.
- Aika Online is back! However, this time under the name Aika Online Global. Originally, the title was shut down in 2021, but now it returns in a new guise. The MMORPG focuses on large battles with thousands of players.
- Fallout 76 is getting a free update with Atlantic City Boardwalk Paradise. There are new missions, enemies, factions, and more. However, the update is banned in several countries like Belgium and Saudi Arabia due to gambling content (via MassivelyOP).
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Tarisland has introduced its different boss types. There will be 4 different types. One of them even influences the entire server upon its death and distributes buffs to all players.
- Ravendawn is launching in January 2024 and offers over 50 classes. It is said to remind players of old-school titles like Tibia and Ultima Online. Next week, the open beta is set to begin, where players can test the MMORPG.
- A new MMORPG mixes magic and machines. Crystal of Atlan aims to offer 12 classes for different playstyles. The game is set to launch for both PC and mobile devices.
- The development team of World of Jade Dynasty has commented on the possible payment model. It plans to introduce a subscription model similar to World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14.
