The Warzone of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare can be a lot of fun, but it can also get a bit stressful. Keep these 10 tips in mind to have a guideline for how to proceed on the road to victory in any situation.

Warzone Tip 1: Play in a Squad
No matter how large the current teams are in the Battle Royale, having a full team will make you more successful. At the launch of Warzone, everyone plays in trios and although you can theoretically also start as a solo or duo team, you have a disadvantage compared to the trio teams.
The coordination and communication of the complete squads will usually be better and the players are also more accustomed to each other.
So if you want to start a Warzone match, go through your friends list and take along whoever you can.
Warzone Tip 2: Loot as Little as Possible
Sounds weird, but in the Warzone, looting too much can ruin your round. Once your loadout is somewhat set, go hunting! There are good equipment around every corner in the Warzone and as soon as you feel somewhat strong, it shows to your opponents as well.
Continue to open crates you happen to walk by and hope for killstreaks or better weapons. But otherwise, get new equipment from broken enemies and less often from crates.
The problem with excessive looting: When you meet an enemy after several minutes without a firefight, you may be unprepared or out of sync.
Aiming and hitting will be significantly more difficult. If you go directly hunting other players, you also have the chance for a lot of cash and good equipment, but you will be warmed up and always on guard. If you are also equipped with the best weapons of the Warzone, you have a chance to win every firefight.
Warzone Tip 3: Remember Spots and Play Aggressively
Where you drop does not make a big difference in the Warzone, at least in terms of loot. While there are places that promise more loot, you can also find good equipment in remote areas.
In the Warzone, it is more important to know where the action is happening. Gather a loadout and play aggressively from the start. Seek out opponents, hunt them, and you will quickly be successful. Since you practice more directly and are better prepared than a team that just completed a 5-minute “Looting Mission”.
The good respawn opportunities allow for and reward an aggressive style. If you go down the first time, you can still rescue yourself from the Gulag. After that, it costs your teammates $4,500 to bring you back. With a bit of luck, that is quickly gathered, and your teammate can get you back at one of the many buy stations.
With a self-revive token, you can also get back on your feet alone if you haven’t been completely taken down. This token also costs $4,500 at the buy stations.
Extra Tip: The headshot multiplier in the Warzone is quite high. You should always try to land headshots, as armor does not distinguish between body and head. Enemies go down very quickly.
Warzone Tip 4: Pay Attention to the Mini-Map and Use Suppressors
To locate your enemies even without visual contact, you have 3 helpful tools at your disposal in the Warzone that are always available:
- The large map
- The mini-map
- The compass
On all 3 displays, you will see the enemies firing shots near you. So if you hear the gunfire, you can often check where the enemies are located.
Always keep an eye on the mini-map. The compass also shows targets that are still very far away. If you have a display here, check the large map to learn the exact position.
Conversely, you should use weapons with suppressors. This obscures your position and gives you an advantage over loud shooters without suppressors. Learn here, what suppressors can do and how they work in Modern Warfare.
Extra Tip: Since update 1.17 you can change the mini-map from “Round” to “Square”. The small map in the corner is then almost 20% larger.
Warzone Tip 5: Complete Contracts
Throughout the Warzone map, you will find contracts that your team can complete to gain advantages. On the left of the image, you can see the specific goals and the time you have for them. You can check the exact position of the goals on the map.
- Bounties – Eliminate a specific player
- Advantage: You see an enemy on the map and can hunt them down.
- Disadvantage: The enemies can see if you are approaching and if they can escape, they get a lot of cash.
- Recon – Hold an area for a certain amount of time
- Advantage: If you complete this mission, you can see how the play area shrinks.
- Disadvantage: Upon completion of the recon, a flare rocket shows over long distances where you are located.
- Loot – Loot the displayed crates
- Advantage: You get 3 large crates displayed on the map.
- Disadvantage: Sometimes the crates are in inconvenient locations and it takes forever to get all 3.
At the start of the round, make a looting and try to complete a recon mission in each match. This way, you can secure crucial advantages. Bounties can be particularly exciting. However, if the opponents escape quickly, you put money in the team’s pockets.
Warzone Tip 6: High Ground, Power Positions, and Planning
At the start of each round, a squad leader is chosen by Warzone. While you don’t necessarily have to drop with the leader, it helps if you designate someone from the team to say where to go. The leader then focuses on tactical engagement and keeps an eye on the big map while the rest of the team secures the environment and concentrates on kills.
This approach helps to act together as a team, as one person keeps an eye on the actions and paths of the squad and directs them. It also results in you being able to act more often from “power positions” such as the “high ground”.
You take a position from which you have an advantage over the opponent. Often this position is above the enemy, as from here you can hit the head of the enemy soldier better while showing only a small portion of your body. However, most of the time, you’re showing your head, which can be a slight disadvantage. “High grounds” are particularly good for snipers. Here are tips for aspiring snipers.
The leader should always try to secure the approach with “power positions”, keep a cool head in firefights, and give clear instructions.
Extra Tip: Planning until the end of the round is significantly easier with a “recon”. Complete the mission, get the information about the shrinking circle, and move deep into the endgame area.
Warzone Tip 7: Pay Attention to Ammunition
The ammunition mechanics restrict you a bit in your choice of weapons in the Warzone. In total, there are 5 types of ammunition for actually 8 weapon classes:
- Assault rifles and LMGs
- SMGs and pistols
- Snipers and DMRs
- Launchers
- Shotguns
This is particularly limiting for assault rifles and LMGs, as you can only carry limited ammunition, which can quickly run out after a longer firefight. Avoid carrying an LMG and an AR at the same time and instead take something with range or a rocket launcher.
Warzone Tip 8: Bring Rocket Launchers
At least one person in the team should be ready with a loaded rocket launcher. Launchers offer you 2 advantages that you should not miss out on:
- Effective combat against vehicles
- Good against sheltered enemies due to environmental damage
Vehicles are everywhere in the Warzone, and helicopters constantly fly over the map. With a launcher, you have the option to take down vehicles and also hit enemies who are hiding behind a corner waiting for their health to regenerate.
Warzone Tip 9 – Endgame: Get Personal Loadouts
Make special loadouts for the Warzone and keep adjusting them. The goal in every round should be to bring your own equipment combos into play. You can find the best loadouts and perks of the Warzone here.
You can purchase the supply crates at buy stations for $6,000 and the entire team can equip themselves with their personal loadout. However, the crate is visible to all players on the map.
This gives you really strong and personalized weapons, your preferred loadout, and is the only way to gain perks in the Warzone that give you even more advantages.
Extra Tip: Do not take the perk “Overkill” to carry two weapons into BR. This way, you can take a strong perk from the red category, such as “Ghost”, with you. By that time, when you get your loadout, you usually already have a good weapon that you can quickly pick up again.
Warzone Tip 10 – Endgame: Use Your Cash and Buy Stations
By the end, you often have a lot of money in your pocket: So use it. If you have taken a “power position” in a late circle, make sure that a buy station is nearby.
Here you can buy killstreaks, armor, and you can revive buddies. Prepare for every fight optimally. Since the enemies often bring back money to you, you can shop right after the fight.
Do not be stingy and spend everything you have. In the endgame, your pockets will almost always be stuffed with cash, so you do not have to be frugal here.
Extra Tip: If you have enough cash, activate a drone at every buy station. Then you can see enemies on the map for a short time and can also grab another killstreak. If you start 3 UAVs at once, you even get the functions of an “Enhanced Recon Drone”.
