The online shooter Defiance from Trion Worlds, released as an additional experience to the now-defunct science fiction series of the same name, lets you fight against aliens, mutants, and other players in a post-apocalyptic world.
It can get quite bloody at times. Depending on the weapon, it is possible to make an enemy’s skull explode with a headshot.
Making heads explode
The shooter now has a few years under its belt, and the graphics are not as detailed as one might expect from more modern games, yet it still presents a bloody affair when fighting enemies. Therefore, an age rating of “18 and older” is likely justified.

The Division
Ubisoft’s online shooter does not offer particularly bloody scenes, but in the game, you fight against “humans”. You shoot at human enemies, whom you can kill with a headshot. A bit of blood also splatters. If hit by a flamethrower, the victim runs and screams horribly. These are not scenes for children.
Gloomy and brutal
Additionally, the atmosphere is very oppressive, and the dark story of the game in which you are exposed to a deadly virus in Manhattan requires you to save the population and find the masterminds behind the attack. The proximity to reality, the fact that the majority of conflicts in The Division are resolved through violence, and that you are dealing with human opponents justify the age rating of “18 and older”.
