Snipperclips
Genre: Puzzle Game | Players: 1 – 4 | Released: 10.11.2017 | Cost (in the Nintendo eShop): €19.99
Age Rating: USK from 0 years
What kind of game is this? Snipperclips is a puzzle game with an unusual approach. You take control of little paper figures trying to complete various challenges – by cutting each other into shape.
The tasks could hardly be more different. Sometimes you have to simply fulfill a shape, at other times transport a ball, or move a liquid from A to B.
How you do that is up to you. Most solutions lie somewhere in a cutting pattern. The catch: You have to position your figures on top of each other in a way that allows you to cut into shape. It’s hard to express in words – best check out the trailer to see how the principle works:
Good collaboration is crucial to finding the right shapes and solutions. The perfect game to motivate your brain cells together.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
Genre: Action/RPG | Players: 1 – 4 | Released: 19.07.2019 | Cost (in the Nintendo eShop): €59.99
Age Rating: USK from 12 years
For children who have fallen in love with the Marvel comics or movies, Ultimate Alliance 3 on the Switch is a great opportunity to play their superheroes. The game revolves around a story involving Thanos, the Infinity Stones, the Avengers, and many other superheroes – so there’s plenty on board that you might know from the cinema.
You can unlock many superheroes from level to level: The Guardians of the Galaxy are just as included as the X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, or Captain Marvel.
All heroes have their own abilities that can be combined into powerful attacks. The controls are quite intuitive and simple, but the camera can sometimes act quite strangely.
The game offers a slightly bigger challenge and is somewhat more mature than the other games on this list. But for Marvel fans, it’s a great option on the Switch.
Now we will show you three game series that you should take a closer look at – as they offer several games that are suitable for children.
Super Mario – From Odyssey to Mario Maker
What kind of series is this? Super Mario needs little introduction. The red-blue clad, jumping plumber has been traveling on Nintendo consoles for years and primarily deals with the jump ’n’ run elements on the Switch.
However, there are many other games featuring Mario that could be worthwhile for children. Here are a few examples:
- Super Mario Odyssey is for single players who can also handle a bit more challenging jumping and puzzle sections.
- Super Mario Maker 2 lets you create your own levels – and try out creations from other players. Here, creativity in crafting and perseverance in replaying are required.
- Mario Party Superstars is the classic board game mini-game hybrid that can keep the whole family busy on the Switch. You compete against each other in various disciplines, which are not too difficult.

Pokémon – Adventures in Collecting and Battling
What kind of series is this? Pokémon is also a classic. The basic story is often the same: You embark on an adventure to find, catch, and train all the Pokémon in the world. The whole thing is in a friendly design, but sometimes requires considerable skill.
- Pokémon Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee is probably the easiest representative on the Switch. These are remakes of the old Red and Blue games, offering a simplified leveling and catching system that is almost reminiscent of Pokémon GO.
- Pokémon Sword & Shield were the main titles on the Switch and are somewhat larger in scope. Here you travel in 3D graphics through the world, and the battles are somewhat more challenging than in “Let’s GO” – but still easy.
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the newest member of the series on the Switch and offers an approach that emphasizes the adventure even more.
- Pokémon Snap offers a completely different approach. Here, you go on a photo safari and experience the Pokémon up close. There are no battles, but exciting trips through the wilderness.

The Lego Games
What kind of series is this? The Lego games on Nintendo Switch often take film series or similar franchises as a basis and somewhat retell the stories – only all in Lego style. They are adventure games mainly consisting of fights, puzzles, and jumping passages.
The nice thing is: Usually, you can play all the games together and fluidly join and leave. There’s long-term fun in unlocking various figures and discovering secrets that you couldn’t explore initially due to missing skills.
Examples include:
- LEGO Harry Potter Collection – With all films in the series
- LEGO Jurassic World – With dinosaurs
- LEGO Marvel Superheroes – Featuring Avengers, Spider-Man, Captain America, and more
- LEGO DC Super Villains – With Joker, Bane, and Co.
Of course, there are many more Switch games that are worthwhile for children and the whole family – after all, Nintendo’s hybrid console often offers co-op or multiplayer variants.
You can find some of the best co-op games on Switch here.
