Although the Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone has been playable for some time and you have certainly secured some victories, there are still mistakes that can cost you the win. MeinMMO shows you 10 common mistakes and how to avoid them.
What kind of mistakes are these? Our list includes mistakes that can happen to both beginners or inexperienced players, but also mistakes that you might make out of habit or may not have recognized at all.
Even though many of you have certainly gained some experience in Warzone, small mistakes can always put you at a disadvantage. In their sum, they often lead to defeat.
The mistakes listed here may not be the most common, but they are mistakes that you can easily avoid – and definitely should avoid. Some of these mistakes have also been explained by YouTuber and CoD expert WhosImmortal in an English video. We have embedded the video for you here:
1. You are not using the weapons correctly
This is the mistake: The weapons in Call of Duty have a spread pattern, also known as “recoil pattern”. This determines the direction and how much a weapon drifts when fired continuously.
If you are playing in the Warzone with a weapon and simply hold on an opponent without properly compensating, many bullets will miss. The mistake here is that you can actually determine exactly how to control it.
How to avoid the mistake: If you have put together a new weapon or a new loadout, go into a private game (if you have purchased Modern Warfare) or into a round of Plunder.
Then stand in front of a wall and shoot without compensating. You will see the trajectory of the bullets, showing you the spread pattern and recoil behavior of the weapon. However, the setting “Bullet Holes & Sprays” in the graphic options must be activated.
This will help you recognize how you should control it. With the strongest attachments for better aiming, your aim will become even more accurate.
2. You waste time with C4
This is the mistake: C4 is a popular equipment in Warzone and should also have a place in your loadout, as it is extremely useful. You can use it to drive away opponents from positions and destroy vehicles.
However, many players use C4 in a way that they throw it and then manually detonate it again. This costs time and while you have the detonator in your hand, you cannot shoot.
How to avoid the mistake: If you double press the equipment button while throwing the C4, or activate the trigger button while throwing, the explosives will detonate immediately as soon as possible. You don’t have to detonate it again. This saves time and prevents you from being exposed for a second while working the trigger.
However, keep in mind that this is only useful for immediate use. If you want to detonate the C4 later, you should activate it manually.
3. You ignore protection from grenades, rockets, and more
This is the mistake: The Trophy System is one of the possible field upgrades in Warzone, but is often ignored. It is one of the most useful items in Warzone, especially since it received a buff in a hidden update for a duration of 10 minutes.
Unlike the three top items you should buy in every round, the Trophy System is not available at supply stations. You only find it in crates.
How to avoid the mistake: If you find a Trophy System, you should not leave it behind or trade it for an allegedly better upgrade like an ammunition box. Instead, place it on a vehicle like a truck.
On the roof of a truck, the Trophy System remains securely “mounted” and you can drive around with it. As long as the system is active, your vehicle is nearly immune to C4, grenades, thermite, rockets, and other things that can be dangerous to you.
4. You don’t use suppressors
This is the mistake: Suppressors are often regarded as rather weak because they have only a minor impact on a weapon’s stats. However, they are one of the most important attachments that your weapon can have.
If you do not use a suppressor, the opponent sees you on their compass as soon as you fire and as long as you fire. You are essentially unprotected, as your position is visible to every enemy nearby – even more clearly than through a UAV.
How to avoid the mistake: However, if you put a suppressor on your weapon, you prevent being revealed. Keep in mind that:
- you should ideally use the suppressor (Monolithic) – that is the strongest one
- you should not put on the lightweight suppressor – it is not worth the trade-offs
- any other suppressor is good until you can use the Monolithic
In our detailed article, we explain to you how suppressors work in Modern Warfare in detail.
5. You are using armor incorrectly
This is the mistake: In Warzone, you can protect yourself with up to three armor plates and thus increase your health points. However, these armor plates must first be attached to your vest.
This happens with each plate individually and many players do it one at a time. For the animation, your character opens the pocket for the plate, inserts it, and closes it again – every time. However, this is the slow way, which you should avoid.
How to avoid the mistake: With the “fast way”, you insert all three plates one after the other and only close the pocket again once they are inserted. To enable your character to use the armor this way, you need to hold the button until all plates are inserted.
6. You pay too little attention to sound
This is the mistake: In Modern Warfare and Warzone, sounds from the environment provide you with important information about opponents. However, many players only pay attention to specific sounds and ignore others, or their settings are wrong from the start.
How to avoid the mistake: To ensure you always hear optimally what is happening around you, your sound option “Dialogues” should always be set so that you can hear them as far away as possible and always – even when you are moving yourself.
Furthermore, you should pay attention to certain sounds in the environment. We are not (only) talking about footsteps, which are certainly important, but often inconsistent. Important sounds include:
- the breaking of glass/windows
- doors opening and closing
- the opening and closing of parachutes
- players coughing in the gas circle (this especially prevents embarrassing “Pay-2-Win” victories)
7. You don’t know the map well enough
This is the mistake: The Warzone map Verdansk is huge, but often offers specific points where you always find the same things. Still, many players just play without regard to their surroundings.
This leads to opponents with better map knowledge finding a way to flank you or completely outmaneuvering you by resupplying with ammunition from a crate that is freely accessible in a nearby building.
How to avoid the mistake: Avoiding this mistake is relatively time-consuming, as you need to play a lot to get familiar with the map. You should get to know the map and remember key points – such as which buildings you can reach with your parachute or where supply stations are located.
However, this comes over time and with enough rounds. You should play in a way that you consciously look at your surroundings and remember where things are, rather than just wandering around aimlessly. A good starting point is to check out the best landing points in Warzone and study the map from there. Because map knowledge is always one of the keys to success.
8. You don’t have a “Panic” loadout
This is the mistake: Many players build strong loadouts with the best weapons in Warzone and then save them somewhere in their ten available slots without paying attention to where they are located.
If you need to open a loadout drop in a tight situation or find yourself without weapons after a victory in the Gulag, this leads to you being an easy target as long as you need to select the loadout.
How to avoid the mistake: Build a “Panic” loadout that ideally consists of an all-rounder weapon with setup and place it at the top of your personal loadouts. Make sure it is a weapon and equipment that is good to use in any situation.
This way, you can simply hammer the “Use” button even in a situation under fire at the loadout drop and get your loadout before the animation finishes loading. This way, you do not waste time and are not exposed in the open for too long.
9. You are using the wrong equipment in the team
This is the mistake: The heartbeat sensor is probably the strongest gadget in Warzone. That is why every player wants to have at least one loadout where they use it – and that is right.
However, too many players rely on the sensor and consider it so important that they completely ignore other equipment. This leads to you having all sensors, but no one can properly attack or flank.
How to fix the mistake: If you are playing in a team, communicate who among you will take the heartbeat sensor. The other players should use different tactical equipment in their loadout, such as:
- Flash or stun grenades to storm opposing positions
- Smoke grenades to flank
- Stims to survive a coordinated assault
- Gas grenades to flush out opponents
10. You are not fighting optimally
This is the mistake: While you are fighting against other players in Warzone, you may focus too much on this team. This way, you completely lose sight of other objectives or paths that may be more useful.
This can result in you missing important information such as individual incoming opponents or even another team. Additionally, it may cause you to open fire on a team you spot too early and thus warn them instead of taking them out.
How to avoid the mistake: Even before you start a round, it helps to warm up or do some target training for Warzone. This way, you will get properly acclimated to shooting and be ready for a fight.
Before you start a fight, make sure you can kill the opponents. Do not shoot until you are in a good position.
If the fight takes longer than expected, pause the fire briefly and reassess the situation. Often, it is not worth continuing the fight. If you have attracted the attention of a third team, you should first change position or retreat completely.
If you want to continue the fight, consider whether you can flank better. Coordinate the attack and use cover or smoke grenades to bypass enemy fire to their unprotected side. Often, the gas circle helps with this, as no one expects an attack from the gas. For this tactic, you can rely on everything that you need to know about the gas circle, masks, and more.
